Your Good Buy Of The Day (Part 2)

Has anyone shopped Amazon Warehouse before??? Just was looking a bit…specifically was looking at some kitchen small appliances like coffee makers, air fryers…seems some decent prices if you find something you like - and apparently the same return policy.

Link works for me. I’ve never shopped it.

Wow, I could look there forever. It makes me realize how much they deal with returns!

There is a whole industry of buying pallets of returns and reselling them. I’ve watched a few videos (YouTube?) with them. Often the people buy the pallet because they can see one thing they want (a stroller, something electronic) that they know is a ‘Target’ or a ‘Walmart’ bundle of returns. They open them on the videos and everything is a surprise.

The also sell pallets of US mail that is undelivered.

People sell pallet stuff all over FB marketplace, etc here . Or have FB pages dedicated to the stuff they receive and can sell

One of the Dollar Tree stores near me is getting remodeled and they are having a sale…seriously! All of their party and paper goods were 50 cents. I was restocking those plastic disposable tablecloths….got twenty of them for $10. Four each of five colors…good for all holiday and time of year events.

Of course…you have to have a store getting remodeled…

We have several chairs from this company and more on order. The “Magnum” chairs are good for outdoor events (no worries about the size of the person who might use them.) The low back beach chairs are perfect for little ones; GD loves hers. They’re made in the US, are easy to store, and the webbing can be replaced if ever necessary. If you want custom color combinations, they’ll work with you for a fee of just $5.

The chairs are unlikely to be featured in any interior design publications, but I like the retro look almost as much as the practicality. Discounts are offered to military personnel (current and past) and their dependents, teachers (both K-12 and college), first responders and others.

That’s a handy kind of chair. Years ago at kiddo soccer games I regretted our “new style” folding chairs which were ever so hard to stuff back into their narrow storage sleeves.

I bought a pair of omniheat pants that was way too big for me from Columbia but to my pleasant surprise I was able to remake them into my size while preserving the 3 pockets (including the zippered one) and the sides of the pants. Original price was $75. My price was $31-$15 in columbia cash for net price of $16+ (including tax).
Also bought a $6 spool of black thread and invested 3 days in the project. Out of pocket cash cost was low and I had the time. Very pleased with the pants.

So this idea comes from Wirecutter reviews, part of my New York Times subscription. 12” light cast iron skillet only $50 (on sale for $40)… seems to cheap? Will try to take a look at it in person at Sur La Table.

Lodge is a decent cast iron brand. And it has great reviews. The 10 inch is $30.

LOL - Looks like I may need to start a cast iron cooking hints / recipes thread  We went to Sur La Table today and bought the 12” pan. Hubby balked at my idea for Father’s Day gift, since he usually cooks our skillet meals. Still decided it was worth a try.

The 10” for $30 sale seems a good deal too. But we got the 12” ($40 sale) because we already have a 10” all clad nonstick pan we like, and we verified at the store that its handle is ovenproof. We don’t really like our old shallow 12” pan, which seems not as flat on the bottom as it used to be.

Also considered the 12” double handled model($43 regular price)

Adding an update to say these Lodge “Chef Collection” skillets can be found even cheaper elsewhere. I did pay a bit of premium, even on sale, to shop at the local Sur La Table store. But that’s ok - I do like having their expertise and the ability to look at items in person.

These skillets are heavy for me (even empty), but they are not as heavy as some cast iron. I’ll report feedback in my new thread about cast iron cooking.

Big sale at Athleta (online) starting today. Extra 30% off sale items. Picked up a couple of tanks, a nice hoody, a skort and some workout shorts. Worth a look.

I feel as if this is directly pointed at me!

Coincidentally, my AOL news feed is advertising " Ina Garten’s fave Lodge cast iron pan" on sale at Amazon at what seems to be absurdly low prices for cast iron:

I can’t believe the free Prime shipping on cast iron items. They are soooo heavy! I’ve paid more than that for UPS box shipments to family.

I’m not sure how Lodge is making money. (Well maybe from me, since I paid more at Sur La Table… but we do like giving that store business, fearful it will go away someday)
