I don’t know if it really could matter at all, but is it possible there are “lesser” - even from the same manufacturer - cast iron pans than others? Like somehow in construction or weight or something?? Speaking of the Amazon pan.
To be honest, I’m now not certain which Lodge I have. NYT likes a few. My tag says “Chef Collection Seasoned”, but it is heavy and has the grab handle.
I wouldn’t worry about it - as long as it’s a good size for your household, you can lift and load it in the oven safely and you take care of it, I think you’ll be fine! If you end up loving it and using it really frequently you can ponder whether another size would be a good addition to your kitchen.
There are two styles of Lodge cookware, Classic and Chef Collection. The Classic skillets are the ones at the low low low price. Here’s a nice discussion. I’ll copy this on the cast iron thread.
I bought a box of firelogs on Amazon once just so I didn’t have to buy it in the store. Way to heavy for me to handle. That was great! But it didn’t take long before the free shipping disappeared.
Are you saying Amazon wouldn’t ship these at no cost with your Prime account?
No. I got free shipping with prime the first time but when I needed more the free shipping was no longer available. Too bad–I liked the 40 lbs being delivered to my door step!
My dad said that the post office used to mail just about anything for the price of a stamp when it first started. So somebody had concrete blocks sent to Alaska to build their house–block by block…
Why?
Not exactly economical for fire logs? Plus the poor driver’s back.
I’ve done that (and know others) who get their mega pound dog food or cat litter delivered to door for free.
If a large sized item, such as a big bag of dog food, someone has to deliver that to the store. Then a stocker has to put that large bag on the shelf. A cashier may have to turn over the bag to see the UPC to scan.
You then have to lift the bag into your car and again to get into the house.
What is the issue to have one delivery driver put that package on your front door? You have eliminated a few steps.
UPS drivers lift heavy things all day long. It’s the job description.
Feel bad for the Amazon delivery driver. He’s not union, probably a contract worker and doesn’t get benefits. The UPS driver is part of the teamster union. Your local grocery store stocker probably doesn’t get benefits either.
When my mother started getting Walmart To Go, she was still occasionally going to the grocery store herself. But delivery was great for getting the heavy items, like soda and juice, up to her apartment and down the long hall. (She could have asked me for favors, but she preferred self-sufficiency).
I was at the Macy’s store yesterday, with main goal to return many pairs of mailorder shoes. Decided to shop for a while and ended up picking up 2 pair of these cute Petite size shorts:

That kind of sale ($39.50, 40% off) may typical, not sure. But availability of Petite size range can be hard to find. I bought the light blue color, to go with a pair of new Clark’s casual white sandals that I had decided to keep. And the black too, because I’m not in love with my old black shorts.
I thought the sizing was a bit small. (I needed 10P, though often I’d wear 8P or sometimes even 6P with vanity sizing). But a few reviewers commented true to size.
Same style, Regular

Interesting Macy’s experience: I used the price checker device to verify price on one pair. At the register, only that pair rang up on sale. The other, which was identical style from same rack, rang up at full price. The clerk did not notice since there was also a shirt in my purchase pile. But he did correct the error when I questioned the tota.
Good thing you saw and corrected the different prices!
So I bought one from Amazon per your recommendation (and I had a $10 credit on Amazon so it only cost $11 with tax), it arrived today and we had grilled cheese sandwiches for dinner!
Proving that some things do go down in price, Kroger has been having frequent specials on bacon. This week it was Oscar Mayer for $4.49/pound. Since bacon freezes well, I grabbed a package this morning. Came home to French Open on tv and thought about BLT sandwiches as I unpacked bacon & other groceries. Summer is coming and I will really enjoy it this year - no downsizing move hanging over my head and a farmers market about 5-6 blocks away. Bacon wasn’t just a cost savings good buy, but a good feelings buy. Hope good tomatoes are just ahead in early July
Today is the last day to use REI 20% off one item coupons, and it’s the last day of their big sale.
Has anybody ordered from Temu? These couch arm covers look interesting. (Currently we hand towels, same color as couch, for same purpose.)
I trust trustpilot.
