My grandparents live in Clearwater Beach :)

I don't dislike Texas....I just like to rag on it because the most spoiled person I've ever met and the laziest person I've ever met in my life are from Texas...and both are from Dallas :-P

i have an experienced based opinion, and i don't know what ethnicity you are, but as a south asian-american, i can tell you that i was treated differently because of my race almost everywhere in the south i traveled. i don't know what 'majority' you speak of but they must have been asleep or hiding when anyone , as they pronounced, 'differnt' came around.

dallas and houston? you mean 2 cities in the seemingly infinite mass that is texas? how awesome that i have to actively plant myself in the rare places where severe discrimination is not an issue! ahhh the loveliness and convenience- how nice. i never had any disdain for the south! i actually didn't realize how backwards it was until i left there- by either prototype brainwashing or lack of reference. my experiences are entirely objective i can assure you and i do not exaggerate them.

having a race issue does not mean every single person is racist, fyi. i lived in the texas panhandle from 1998-2003- and after 9/11 people, in masses, starting flying both US and confederate flags on their cars and stood them in their lawns- what the confederacy has to do with the 'war on terrorism- yeehaw' i still have not quite figured out. not just one or two- the majority- of every WASP that is. my high school placed three sikhs (who have about as much in common with muslims as eskimos) into the ISS room (in school suspension) with the problem kids. this was for their own protection as there were death threats from a few dozen kids.

the south can be a 'unicorns and cumulus clouds' world for people, dude, and i get that. you just have to be white and have been baptized.

^ we're not talking about politics here, just regional differences, and politicians from both sides have to be PC. just because someone is conservative doesn't make them ignorant or racist...there are plenty of ignorant liberals too, that's for sure.

Ok let's all go back to talking about the party scene in Ithaca now! :p

I should amend my previous post. Tops doesn’t sell liquor, only beer. Nearby Triphammer Wines & Spirits does however; they are cheap and have a reasonable selection. If you’re a wine person or are searching for some rarer liquor, go down to Northside, which is like 2-3 miles from campus by Wegmans. The place is huge and reasonably priced. Best not to attempt unless you’re 21, they called the cops on me after I turned 21.

greek life only dominates the drinking scene if you let it, and if you are a freshman. Most upperclassmen hang out at bars, not frats regardless of greek affiliation. There are tons of different party scenes, greek being the largest but IMHO the most fun have been the Cornell Outdoor Education parties. Independent/Ctown parties tend to be better because everyone knows each other and there are no stupid IFC rules.

Yeah, frats dominate drinking scene for frosh, and you really don’t need a fake especially if you are a girl. Bars/apartments do dominate later. Or you can compromise like me and drink both at your frat and in collegetown!

anyone can go to the bars, but I would prob feel really weird and left out there if I weren’t greek.

“Independent/Ctown parties tend to be better because everyone knows each other and there are no stupid IFC rules.”

this comment just doesnt make sense. what I love about the greek community is how it makes cornell seem so much smaller. I feel like I know most of the greek community, or at least recognize everyone. I love going to the bars bc everyone there is in the community so you see lots of people you know (rather than just friends at one frat and your own house like at a mixer).
ifc rules really don’t cause much of a problem. you cant have hard liquor downstairs but everyone goes upstairs to take shots anyway.

well i guess he’s pretty smart but this thread is messed up i dont like the idea of all this happening at cornell. i guess my vision of the school is that its a place for the best students in america and that its real serious. i know that sounds lame but this thread sounds like the stuff that belongs in a SUNY school, not an ivy league school.

Welcome to real life thenatural. This happens everywhere, please don’t try and lie to yourself. You can choose to be a part of it or not and find plenty of like minded people.
