hmm...so I'm a up n coming junior at cu but i discovered this when i was a pre-frosh...up until now i've just gotten my older friends to buy me liquor but my bf's turning 21 and i'm not next year (i'm young for my grade) so I'm trying to figure out if the fake I have is gonna work out at cornell. I can tell you this - my friend used his older brother's expired NY drivers license to get us all liqour for the past 2 years and it's worked like magic - i think he goes to the liqour store near the mall? I've heard grandma's is still easy to buy cheap beer from but Ruloff's has uv light now so I doubt it's as easy. Johnny O's really depends on who is working the door - they now sometimes ask for two forms of ID so watch out. The one night I did try to get in my ID didn't work so now I have doubts on it but hopefully the bouncer was just mean - it was also 12:30 on a saturday so maybe they were being more tough. They also recently had their scanner stolen so they do scan your IDs (when they had it). There's also a new bar in collegetown called Level B but I have no idea how hard/easy it is to get in. Hope the info helps, p.s. anyone who knows where I can get a really really good fake that works under UV and is scanable - let me know, i'm trying to muster up the cash for one! :)

The guys at Ruloff's are dicks. I was having dinner there two years ago with my parents and some of their friends, walked outside with a friend of mine and came back four min later and they refused to let us in without id (it was in bar mode by then though...11:00).
Good to know about grandmas. I'll have to stop by during orientation.

frats are free, fun, and pretty much all you need freshmen year, and then once youre in a frat or friends with someone in a frat you have access to people who are willing and able to buy you alcohol. only when you drink on tuesdays and wednesdays are you going to really need to get youre own alcohol, or if you dont know people and still want to pregame. anyway, you can basically drink for free all of freshmen year so why not let that be the case..

haha quick1865...that must have been awful ! and I am glad he only lives there for the first week!

raj115.... haha that never happened to me because skorton only became president last year. it would funny if it happened to someone though.

yeah honestly as a freshman (and pretty much as a sophomore) there is no need for an ID because frat parties will be your social outlet as well as collegetown parties. i doubt you'll have close friends who are 21 who would want to go to the bars with anyway. if you join a greek house it'll be easier for someone to buy you alcohol and it'll be easier to get an ID for that period during junior year when you're still 20.

What's the deal on smokable goods?

Check out webehigh.com. They have a page on Ithaca.

hahahahaha that site is great

Any popular tobacco shops?

OMG!!....the posts here are so cool....I can't believe how trendy Cornell kids can be!

"Guide to Sin and Pleasure"? Give me a break.

The only decent place in CT is Stella's. As for the beer selection at Chapterhouse- it's like drinking puked Bud Light. The only nice thing about that joint is the company of grad students.

Frat parties - the worst beer on this planet, bad music and weird people grinding. Unless you're a brother, low chances of having fun....

Don't get me started about the drunk chicks ready to vomit in their purses.....

The point is - if you're a shy kid who spent all his/her life at home before college, Ithaca will probably seem like a really cool place to be in. If you wanna go to crazy parties and enjoy the company of beautiful people, be prepared for a trip to NYC or Canada.

Also, u can find parties only before the prelims start.....so don't be surprised if you'll find yourself spending the last 2 months of the semester in the library/dorm room.

A lot of the information in here is useful. It's nice to know where to buy beer before getting to campus, and the feels of each of the bars. If I wanted beautiful people and trendy night clubs I could have gone to some other school (and NYC's club scene is overrated in my opinion). But having grown up watching movies like Animal House, sketchy frats are quite desirable, even with bad music, beer, and drunk girls.
Ps. If you're really an attractive Romanian girl, feel free to send your rebuttal via PM.

Montreal.

I dunno when. It was just a helluva a lot of fun when I went. Have to be 18 for everything. You don't even get IDed.

The only time I saw a saw any type of law enforcement was when a guy overdosed right outside my hotel room.

Someone mentioned that President Skorton stays in Donlon for the first week of the semester; does anyone know which floor he stays on?

If you take cataxxx's advice, you'll probably find yourself living alone in a dorm designated for upperclassmen, festering in your bitterness and trying to disillusion freshmen on collegeconfidential, while the rest of your classmates will be enjoying themselves with their friends. I guess that's the price you pay for trendiness/beautifulness.

Oh yes indeed....everybody's having so much fun and I'm so jealous LOL....thanks for stalking me, Spanks. You've managed to back up my statements - it's the middle of the summer and you're spending your time on the web, tracking my posts. I guess you're a real party animal. And forgive me for not seeing any connection between living in a single and not having a good time?!

As for the parties at Cornell....the freshmen should know what they got themselves into. It's no Ibiza, trust me....btw, Spanks - I suggest you pay a visit to the island, you might learn something.

Yes, it was very difficult to click your user name and "see more posts." It's really going to put a damper on my Tuesday afternoon partying. Comparing this to "stalking" and wasting my summer is delusional and vastly inaccurate, like your social commentary on Cornell.

Well, I do have high standards when it comes to parties.

I guess the party scene is much better than the one at Dartmouth or other remote places. And it's definitely more than you'd expect from a town in the middle of nowhere.

A more accurate title for this thread would be "Guide to surviving the lack of social effervescence in Ithaca, NY"....
