Hey guys I am new to these forums and from reading posts about UW I am getting a bit discouraged. I am a Junior in California. I am also Hispanic. My current average unweighted GPA is a 3.2 with an upward trend. I have taken the PSAT with a 50 (R) 58 (M) and a 49 (W). I have not taken the SAT yet. I have 1 year of JV soccer experience and will most likely join the varsity squad next year. I am secretary of two different clubs. I will also be a student body officer next year. Next year I will have a tough schedule with English 12, Statistics AP, Calculus AP, Computer Science AP, Spanish 3 or 4 AP (Depending on my placement test), and Government AP. I am also going to enroll in a Economics class at a local Cal State University.

In your opinion, what do you think I should do to have a competitive profille to be admitted to UW?
SAT score?

The most important things that UW looks at are SAT scores, GPA, and your essay. I would say start working on your essay early, read tips for college application essays over the web, look over it for a few months, have it edited by your teachers/cousnelor, etc. if you really want to get in. California has some good schools, some equivalent or better to UW, so I would look at those schools too as they are much cheaper for in-state. Your SAT score would have to be really good to overcome that GPA as well so study real hard, take the ACT as well if that's better for you. I don't think you'd get in with a 1800 or under.

Thanks for the advice. I really would like to go to UW and I'm willing to do whatever it takes. You mention California schools, any ideas? I've thought about the UCs but most would be reaches.

Since you are a Californian resident, I'd take a look at the UC's before looking at the UW.
I'm from Washington, and currently go to UC San Diego. I got in with ~2050 SAT scores, but my roommate (who's from CA) got in with a ~1600.

Being Hispanic will also probably give you a slight advantage.
