Yulman Stadium

I guess I am in a relatively unique position to compare the two situations. My first two years the games were at Tulane Stadium, and I went to almost all of them. The last two years they were at the Dome and I only went to one or two. I just found the inertial barrier of getting on a bus or shuttle to be more than I cared to overcome, and I like sports. I went to many of the basketball games. To be fair, I had a lot more going on my last two years with belonging to several music groups, one of which was fairly demanding, and doing my research, besides the usual classes and dating. But since my basketball attendance was only slightly affected, I can pretty safely assume that had the football games been on campus I would have kept going. Especially since back then they were always on Saturday nights at (I think) 8:00.

I think CJ is doing an amazing job, and he already has a great start on the next class of recruits. Proximity + product quality should definitely amp up attendance. Plus it is free (well, prepaid) so it is as easy as showing your Splash Card.

But can Tulane grad students get Splash Cards?

I might consider attending Tulane at the PhD level…

I love college football. But I would not blame any kid for not attending a game at a remote, indoor, pro, 75,000 seat stadium with only 10,000 people in it. Even if the team is doing OK, that sounds dreadful.

northwesty - it is dreadful.

Catria - since it appears grad students pay the same Student Activity Fee as undergrads (this is the fee that covers the cost of students attending Tulane sports) I can only assume grad students operate under the same system of Splash Cards. I would imagine grad students can buy a meal plan at Bruff as well, and there also used to be graduate housing on campus, at the very edge of campus on Claiborne. I think that is closed and now if grad students want university housing they can apply for Papillon Apartments in the Garden District, about 3 miles from campus in the Garden District. It is on the streetcar line. I would think a card is required for all these.

How easily would you expect Tulane to fill 30,000 seats in an on-campus stadium?

Sure, students and staff (faculty included) will be more likely to attend on-campus games…

I think there is a decent chance they can fill it, or at least get to a steady (real) attendance of 22-25,000. The better the team, the more likely they will completely fill the place. We will see.
