Your thoughts?

Instant loss of credibility with an endorsement from the liar in chief.
In all seriousness Zingerman is good but not great. It is without a doubt among the best in Ann Arbor but that’s not saying anything. I can name 3 better sandwich places, 3 better cheese stores and 3 better bakeries here in Dallas over Zingerman, and this is from someone who used to go to Zingerman twice a month at least. It is good in the context of Ann Arbor but that’s just because Ann Arbor is very lacking in food across the range, but that’s typical for a small city.

Sandwich places:

Also loved that you cited a huffnpuff post article as if that’s a real news outlet!

I have to agree with Bearcats. I had been hearing about the greatness of Zingerman’s for two years and finally went there was summer when taking my boy back to school. I just love Reuben sandwiches and have probably eaten hundreds of them (maybe slight exaggeration) in my lifetime (66 yo). The Reuben from Zingermans was run-of-the- mill – nothing to write home about except for the size. The outdoor garden patio seating was nice and I could see it would be great after a football game but I doubt if I’ll ever stand in line and wait for a table again at Zingermans.

It is also on other news sources. So unless you have proof that it is a hoax, you cannot discredit it.
After reading this one on mlive, I laughed.

They do increased the hour rate recently at the Bakehouse. Otherwise, it was not much higher than the minimum wage. I wonder if they’ve foreseen this presidential visit and increased the wage. Of course, Deli and Bakehouse has different owners although they are both under the same name.

@bearcats‌
It seems you’ve missed the point why Obama visited Zingerman’s Deli. He is on a trip to promote an increase in minimal wage. He is not looking for the best sandwich or cheese in the country. Check the wage of the stores you linked for comparison.

None of those places you listed are jewish style delicatessens bearcats. Apples to oranges. I agree that for taste and value, Zingerman’s is overrated. There are at least three delis in the Detroit area that offer a comparable/better sandwich for less money. My personal favorite is the Star Deli in Southfield.

^ Agree. It is like comparing organic produce with regular ones. Many people found it overpriced. I do have insider information at Zingerman’s and know their strict requirement for ingredients. For better price or better taste, you do have other options. ;)

Exactly right billcsho.

Zingerman’s is terrific, but not worth waiting in line for.

Bearcats, I do not profess to know much about delis. I don’t even care much for the concept. But I know several deli affectionados who have sampled dozens of the best delis in Moscow, London, Berlin, NYC, Paris etc…According to them, Zingerman’s is legitimately good. They did not compare it to delis in Dallas, but they did say that it was among the best delis they had ever been to.

No debate, it is a great deli. It’s Manhattan prices are a bit of a turn off to middle class Michigan residents is only negative thing you’ll hear about it.

“They did not compare it to delis in Dallas…”

Too funny. There is no comparison. Texas is a deli wasteland.

I used to live in Dallas (for around 9 years). Deli was never on top of my mind when I eat out. TexMex and BBQ are the popular choices.

This is what a real jewish style deli is like:

http://www.stardeli.net/

carry out only. Btw, I don’t have any affiliation with this business. Don’t hold it against them… ;-)

Sorry, no good Jewish deli I’m familiar with is going to have mayo and miricle whip in its condiment list. Oy gevalt.

^^^Don’t kid yourself wayneandgarth, they all do. It’s not like the old days. Most of the clientele in Detroit area delis are not Jewish anymore. Rest assured you can still just get mustard or russian dressing on your sandwich. Btw, this place makes the best tuna salad I ever ate. I have no idea how they do it, and they won’t tell!
