For car-less students like my daughter, it would be wonderful if Zipcar was available at Bard for the occasional need to drive somewhere. Anyone know if this is in the works at Bard, or if Bard has even approached Zipcar to provide their service on campus?

I wish there were Zipcars - but my son said that Zipcar doesn’t feel like there are enough students at Bard to make it worth their while. Perhaps if we all lobbied them?

Sign me up. This would solve lots of D’s problems and save us from having to buy her a car when she gets back from London in the spring!

I would be happy to help lobby Zipcar, but unsure how best to do this? Via the Bard parent group?

I did go on Zipcar.com and searched for Bard under the Universities tab and saw that there’s an account set up for Bard bit it’s for staff & faculty. (And another direct billing account for Bard’s globalization program.)

While an interesting idea, being carless isn’t that bad at Bard. The Shuttle frequently goes into the surrounding towns, goes to Kingston on Wednesdays and Poughkeepsie on Saturdays and Sundays, and there are more than enough people who are willing to give people rides places (though most like to be paid a bit if they’re driving to Poughkeepsie).

Good to know lilygraces. Thanks for your post. I’ll now stop being a worrywart parent and let my daughter figure things out on her own when she arrives on campus. :-)

Yea! Zipcar finally comes to Bard campus this fall. Starting Monday students, faculty, and staff will have access to shared cars 24/7!
