Hello, I have finished my freshman year winter term in college and I think I screwed up my GPA bad.
I 'm biology -pre med and planning to apply for medical school after college. My GPA for spring was 3.33 and the winter term GPA was 3.39, which is too low for premed student. I took Orgo this term and I screwed up, I got B on that…
So, I m thinking of dropping college and start first year over … I wasn’t happy about my college and I had hard time adjusting here. Maybe, that is the reason why I could not focus on academics… So my questions are, if I drop college now, am I still eligible apply as a freshman in other college? If I drop current college and graduate other college, will the previous college’s GPA affect my application to medical school? I am so frustrated… I have one more term to finish as a freshman, and I don’t want to continue studying here with that horrible gpa. I don’t consider transfers, I just want my current PGA to be unaffected in medical school application… what should I do… give me some advice please!
You have attended college. You are no longer a first-time freshman.
There is a national student clearinghouse that all schools report students to. If you transfer, do not attempt to hide the fact that you previously attended college.
How a transfer institution handles previous work might depend on the institution. My D received approval to take a course while at home during the summer after her first year at college. That work transferred back to her school and she received credit, but the grade was not counted in her GPA. Likewise, her study abroad work displayed as credit on her transcript, but the grades were not counted in her GPA.
I worked at a university, and we displayed all transfer work on the official transcript from our university. We displayed work for each semester (institutional and transfer), and then had three lines at the end that displayed total Institution Credits/GPA. Transfer Credits/GPA, and Overall credits/GPA.
I’m sorry you’ve had a rough start.
You will be a freshman transfer student. You can’t hide your past college record. You can repeat classes you did poorly in. Talk to an academic adviser at your current college, or at a college you want to apply to.
Your GPA isn’t that bad. Work really hard, and bring all those grades up for the next three years if you want to go to med school. I think you can overcome a not great first year if you work really hard for the other years.
