'08 Applicants

So, who all is applying to Oxy this year and where are you from? I'll start it off...

Marissa, potential English major from Pittsburgh.

My son is planning to apply. We live in Oregon. He's interested in philosophy and politics.

My son will apply. He attends a boarding school in West Texas. I'm an alumnus living in Northern California.

I am an international from Bulgaria and will too apply to Oxy

Take it from an oxy grad, the school is excellent in and in a really hip and gentrifying neighborhood. Check out this site for local details: www.yorkblvd.com

i'm from california and thinking of majoring in either english or sociology. i'm visiting and interview in a couple of weeks so wish me luck

Boston area and interested in majoring in Diplomacy and World Affairs

I'm Tiffany from California applying as chemistry or undecided

I'm born and raised in Los Angeles and want to attend Oxy under the Group Language major. I'm also interested in Middlebury but I don't have the grades for that.

Stats:
Black, female, 24yrs, low-income
HS GPA: (graduated 2001) 2.3
Art Institute of Las Vegas GPA (spring and summer '03): 3.0
Art Institute of Los Angeles GPA (spring, summer, fall '04) 2.7
West Los Angeles College GPA (only one class: Japanese 1) 4.0
Santa Monica College GPA (only one class: Japanese 2) 4.0
West Los Angeles College classes currently in progress: (Math 112: Pre-Algebra, I SUCK at math and find it horrendously uninteresting, Linguistic Anthropology, English 28, pre-req for 101, and Political Science 1)

Do you all think I MIGHT have a shot. I'm really trying to beef up to transfer to a good school for foreign language because I don't have the best academic background. I didn't figure out what I wanted in education until the last couple of years. I hadn't really thought much about college during high school.

Hey y'all, I'm a current student (sophomore), so if any of you have any questions for me, please feel free to ask! Congrats on choosing to apply to Oxy, it really is an awesome school.

How easy or hard was it to get in? I'm like, a C average student (it's always science and math that kills me) and how good are they with aid? I would prefer not to have any loans but beggars can't be choosers.

Oh yeah, grade update: For fall 07

Linguistic Anthropology (I don't even think this class really transfer to anything. I was only taking it to see if I would like to get into linguistics and I don't. Now I know.) - C
Math 112 (pre-algrebra) - D
English 28 (right before 101. I'm now taking 101) - B
Political Science 1 - B

In progress for winter 08:

English 101
Art 101
Philosophy 1

from southern california
asian
planning to major in neuroscience--that is, if they accept me.

My D is applying.

EmpressLeo - It's pretty hard to get in, they look heavily at grades. Out of the 7 people in my quad, 5 of them were valedictorians, and all had over a 4.0. That is the general feel of the school, although Oxy also does look heavily at personal characteristics and extra curriculars, so I wouldn't give up hope. I would work really hard to get your GPA up this semester to show effort and improvement though. Best of luck!

im from connecticut and i want to do something in international studies or pre-law.

I am from Nepal. Planning to major in Physics and/or Theater Arts.

I'm not applying this year (I'm a junior) but I'm really interested in applying next year, how are my chances?

3.5 GPA (fairly tough classes, just about as many AP as I can take, but my school doesn't offer many APs)

34 on the ACT (I haven't taken the SAT yet)

I volunteer frequently with a pro-choice organization and the AIDS network, and I'm hoping to add an environmental one soon if I have the time.

I work two jobs, camp counselor in summer and a lot of weekends in the fall and spring at camp, and also a hostess at TGI Friday's.

I'm in drama club, model un, mock trial, NHS, art club, and stage crew and I have a leadership position in drama. I also do a lot of art on my own and have taken horseback riding lessons for 7 years.

So..chances?

letscrshtheparty, I followed another one of your other threads. Is this link a good reflection of the theatre program? She has primarily been involved in or local youth theatre, most of which has been musicals.
