i'm worried. i gave my counselor my recs in september, and as of december 16th (the last day before winter break) he still hadn't finished. he said he would make sure to mail them out by jan 1. my counselor is a nice person and all, but he is so unorganized. I have a guy friend with an arabic name, and the counselor had written his whole rec as if he was a girl. "She is an excellent student..." my friend katie had her rec written as if her name was natalie. i'm concerned he's not going to mail out my rec by jan 1, especially since he's going to europe over break.

will i get in trouble if the counselor rec isn't postmarked by 1/1? i've already sent in everything else and my teachers say they've mailed in the teacher recs already. i know that the admissions office usually contact applicants who are missing a part of their application, and it's not a big deal. i go back to school jan 4th, so if he hadn't mailed them by then, well, i'll make him.

i know how you feel...my guidance counselor is a very nice lady, and she's fairly organized, but her secretary is a complete and total idiot who is lazier than anyone i've ever seen in my life. i walk into the office and instead of filling out forms or mailing things, like you'd expect a guidance secretary to be doing in this crazy pre-deadline time, she was puffy-painting christmas stockings to decorate the office...sad, i know.
so yeah, i know how much it sucks. the best and only thing you can really do is just pray a lot and check as soon as you get back to school. maybe you could call the admissions office to see if they got them, or even explain the situation (nicely, of course). good luck!

This process is stressful enough without having to worry about your GC dropping the ball. You poor thing! If it's going to spoil your holiday, just give the admissions office a call, tell them what is going on, and ask them how they handle this sort of thing.

My GC does the same thing. I was at the point where I was asking him about it each day (i had two schools with Dec. 1st deadlines), and he FINALLY mailed them out on Nov. 29th! I'd given them to him a month earlier, and it's not like he has a ton to do--there are a grand total of 49 kids in my class, most of whom haven't applied anywhere yet.
