1 Q. On Boots

Ya, your stuck with the issued boots. I actually had the Bates equivalent which are a bit heavier than the issued Bellevilles. I saw in the boot issue that the majority of the boots were bates, so yall are screwed lol. Unless you can get them elsewhere.

I have the Corcoran field boot II's. It's exactly the same as the Mirauder, but its all leather instead of the mesh cloth. I like them much better than my issued boots. Still have to break them in a bit, but they will be more comfortable, and most importantly, lightweight.

so are you allowed to bring your own boots that you've already broken in or are you stuck with the issued ones? i can't tell. oh and just how much does recognition suck???

Recognition is not that bad.

Bring your broken-in boots.

who got boots at orientation? tsgt. bell made it sound like Bates were aboslutely necessary but then they were issuing bellevilles (which i bought) does anyone know if i should exchange em at a local base or if these are fine?

If they issued 'em thery're fine! Believe me, there is often mininformation about things because things change every year and not everyone knows exactly what's what.

Bellevilles are fine, and in some people's opinion better (due to weight). I have Bellevilles and they are good.

Be glad for the bellevilles, they are lighter than the bates. It does make a difference when you are doing flutter kicks a lot!

They are the same "design", but made slightly differently.

oh ok good to know, thanks for the help

I am not able to go to orientation so I need to order my boots. I take it from all of the comments that I should ask for bellevilles when I call. Will my size vary much from a typical shoe? Also, I am female, are the sizes in men's?

I would try to find a base where you can try on boots. I can't even try to guess a boot size from shoe size, they come in narrow, regular, and wide and are typically bigger.

definetely try them on... my appointee went through about 6 pairs before he found one that fit right

You're better off waiting till i-day than mail ordering boots IMO. (Not that I'm saying you should do that -- find a local air force base!)

I am also a female and have already gotten my boots. I wear a size 7.5 in womens and I got a size 5.5 in mens. The boots are only in mens sizes. The dress shoes are the ones that fit weird.

Thanks for all the input :)
I'll be sure to go to an AF base and try them on first.

I went to a surplus store that sold the right style (with "minor defects") to size them. Then, I ordered online.
