10 Real SATs (The old CB Prep Book)-How does it compare with the revised SATs (>2005)

I find it less useful and less challenging. Lucky people whot took SATs prior to 2004. The revised SAT exam is much longer and tougher. Does anyone concur with me on this?

The new SAT is definitely longer. Besides the length, whether a student finds it more difficult depends on the student. If you’re not great at math, you’ll prefer the new test (since it’s now two-thirds non-math topics). If your vocabulary is limited, you might also prefer the new test (since the vocab-heavy analogies are gone). You might also like the new test if you’re a good writer (since you can now exhibit your skills on an essay). Otherwise, the old test is easier.

Hi Erik:

I am good in math, voccub, and grammar. I have no major weakness. I was looking for some extra exams to practice and started doing the new CB Blue Book and old 10 Real SATs (Red Book). Based on my experience, the new exam is little hard for passages, SC, and some math qns. The Red Book exams does not cover awhole lot about stats and prob, parabolic qns, and functions etc. DOes any one feel the same way? My only point would be, is it even worth spending time on the old CB exam materials?

same question here. can someone help out? :)

I don’t see any reason to use the old College Board materials. Get the newest book. It’s called The Official SAT Study Guide (2nd Edition). You could search this title on Amazon (make sure you get the 2nd Edition). I think 10 tests is more than enough to practice. With my students, I use the first 4 tests to practice techniques out of time, and perhaps out of order. I use the last 6 tests (usually only 3 or 4 of them) to actually practice taking tests timed. Make sure you are diligent with your timing. This will help you prepare for test day.

You should get a good book that teaches techniques. The College Board book is not good at this. Of course, I recommend my book, but many other books are adequate. Search SAT Tutorial on Amazon, and read the reviews.

Good luck!
