10th Grade Spots at New York City Private Schools

Hi everyone,
I just joined. I am a current 8th grader who just found out what New York private high schools I go into. I got into a coiuple great schools and got waitlisted at some. I was wondering if I wanted to apply to schools for 10th grade, what New York City private schools would potienally have the most spots avalible. I was just wondering if there are any schools that are known or are anticipated for having spots open for next year for 10th grade.

Are you saying you got into some schools but you won’t be going and hope to apply again to the ones that waitlisted you next application cycle?

Or are you going to go to one of the schools you got into and then immediately apply to the schools that waitlisted you next application cycle?

I am a bit confused but I want to say, whichever is correct, high school is a butt kicking experience no matter what school you are attending. Across the board kids I know at elite BS, local day schools, local public schools, NONE of them would have time to create a BS application that was better than the one they did last year.

I meant I will go to one of the schools go to, but hopefully will apply to schools for tenth grade to transfer.

Do you not like the schools you got into?

I think transferring will be very hard. I think you will have so much work that you won’t be able to craft an excellent and MORE compelling application. Remember, those schools already said no once. If you apply again your application needs to show improvement.

IME the 10th grade spots only come up through attrition, so there are far fewer than for 9th. Your best bet if you really want to transfer is to look at the single-sex schools, where more kids leave for boarding school (mainly for 9th, but 10th is popular, too.) But my best advice would be to attend one of the schools that accepted you and go all-in at that school. Once you get there and get involved, you will be less likely to want to leave. There are lots of good options in the NYC area, and NO school is perfect.

Bloom where you’re planted, IMO.
