I am applying to 13 colleges. Is that way to much? Can schools see where else you’ve applied?
I have finished and submitted 11 apps and have 2 left.
I am applying to:
University of South Carolina (working on honors app)
Florida State University
Tulane University
University of Michigan (still working on app)
Eastern Michigan University
University of Wisconsin
Ohio State University
Ohio University (accepted)
Indiana University (accepted)
Boston College (still working on app)
University of Notre Dame
Rutgers University
Fordham University
I am instate for Michigan schools and planning on studying business.
Basically, are there any negatives to applying to so many schools (besides app fees:))?
Besides fees and your time, no negatives. Your list seems balanced. Since you have two acceptances, if they are financially feasible, I wouldn’t apply to anything else that you would put lower on your list of where you want to you.
OP, thanks for providing the list. I think 8 is too much normally but it depends on the schools on the list regarding both fess and required supplemental essays. The risk is not having enough time to dedicate to supplamentals if you are say, applying to all Ivies which unfortunately some do.
The state schools shouldn’t be bad and I know Tulane has no fee. There scholarship requirements are time consuming though.
Can you afford the Indiana U or Ohio U? If so, safety is done. Work on apps in order of preference until you run out of time.
The only possible downsides are if you apply to so many you don’t take the time to really target the applications and essays where it could make a difference. Or if you spend so much time on applications that you don’t have time for doing more worthwhile things senior year.
But if you’ve given every application your best shot, there’s nothing to worry about. It’s also a little late to worry about it, as you’ve already done 11!
You’ve been accepted to two schools. Are there any schools on your list that you would NOT choose, even if it and the two you have were somehow your only choices? If so, then knock them off your list.
