13 years old and applying to college?

I'm planning to apply to Stanford, Harvard, Princeton, Columbia, University of Virginia, Brigham Young University, and Virginia Tech. What chance do I have of getting admitted into my top 4 choices of schools?

Unfortunately I am a WASMM. The double M is Mormon male.

ACADEMICS -

GPA: W 3.96, UW don't know
- My school is one of the top schools in the nation (it's in Northern Virginia)
- Freshman: 3.7 ish, Sophomore 4.25, Junior 4.45, Senior 4.3 as of yet (should be 4.6...long story about that)
- Transferred freshman year, so 3.7 is a skewed representation - more difficult grading scale

Class Rank: 41/411 - current valedictorian has a 4.21 or so

APs: 10 Total
- 2 Sophomore: Latin: Literature (4), World History (5)
- 3 Junior: Latin: Vergil (4), US History (4), Chemistry (3)
- 5 Senior: Physics C: Mechanics, Computer Science AB, US Government, BC Calculus, English Language & Composition

SAT: superscore: 780 CR, 670 M, 750 W
- first time 700 CR, 670 M, 640 W
- second time 780 CR, 660 M, 750 W

SAT IIs: Chemistry (awful), Math II (probably bad), US History (>730 is my guess - easy)
- Just took them Saturday
- I plan to retake Math II and Chemistry and take Latin as well in December

Recommendations:
- outstanding one from Latin teacher
- very good - excellent one from Physics teacher

Awards:
- National Merit Commended Student
- AP Scholar with Distinction
- Perfect score on National Latin Exam in sophomore year
- Bausch & Lomb Honorary Science Scholarship/Award

Additional info:
- am taking Latin VI which is not offered at my school - teach the class part time, and the rest of the time do independent study, part of which involves writing a Latin poem in epic verse (dactylic hexameter)
- skipped Latin III
- am taking/accompanying Chamber Chorus, the highest level chorus, even though I've never done chorus before - only student accompanist ever in my school
- youngest boy in my grade (16 y.o.)

EXTRACURRICULARS -

Piano:
- taken for 9 years, many of which from a conservatory-level teacher
- practice from 5-15 hours a week (used to be consistently 14, but senior year is too busy)
- many awards, including winning State Concerto Competitions and performing with the Montgomery County Symphony Orchestra

Music Composition:
- compose classical music, especially baroque - fugues, concertos, etc.

Architectural Design:
- have sketched/designed/planned many architectural things, mainly classical architecture
- can write a lot about it on college essays, etc.

Boy Scouts:
- been one since I was 12
- am now a Life Scout; could get Eagle but I need a leadership position for another few months, and do my Eagle Project
- plenty of service hours here

Church service:
- many service hours spent and lots of experiences to relate - too many here on CC

P.S. - Sorry, I had to get your attention with the title :D

"P.S. - Sorry, I had to get your attention with the title" this thread fails. I really thought you were 13.

Heh nobody will chance me even with a title like that... so sad...

Wow. 53 views and not a single response. I promise, I'll chance back whoever chances me!

I think you have really good chances... The Latin really stands out because it's something most colleges wouldn't see on everyone's... The number of EC's you have is good and probably very much above average... I'm a junior but I'll be 16 as a senior too but I don't know if the age difference makes much of an impact (I hope so though lol)... It's good that you're planning on making up your SAT II's... In the end, the Ivies are always a reach but you have adequate chances... Good luck!

chance me too please :)

lol, how old are you really?

i'd say you have a pretty fair chance based on your strong ECs and good grades. Props on just making top 10%! lmao... i know i just made it by like 2 spots myself

your SATs are good, but not enough to erase doubt. and yeah, those SAT IIs need to be strong.

but really, Stanford, Harvard, Princeton, Columbia are definitely a far reach for anybody. especially Harvard. all i can say is that you have as good a chance as anybody. you are in easily at BYU, UVA, and VTech.

/Bump
UPDATE: I have gotten 35's on the English and Math portions my ACT practice tests. Hopefully this will stay true for the real test.

University of Virginia, Brigham Young University, and Virginia Tech: match.
Harvard, Princeton, Stanford: reach
Columbia: low reach

chance me back? (it's short) http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/593325-please-chance-me-thank-you-advance.html?highlight=advance

You need to know that your chances at Princeton and Stanford are much better than at Harvard or at Columbia. The reason for this is that Princeton and Stanford do not count freshman year in determining admissions, while Harvard and Columbia do count freshman year. Since you did very well during the sophomore and junior years, but poor in your freshman year, this increases your chances at those schools.

With this in mind, I rank your chances as:
Harvard--Gigantic reach
Columbia--Reach
Stanford/Princeton--Slight Reach
University of Virginia--Match
Virginia Tech--Safe Match
Brigham Young University--Safety

P.S. You do realize that you will have to submit three SAT IIs to Harvard and Princeton and Stanford, don't you?;--so unless the test scores are good, you are doomed at these schools.

Also, you really need to get that math score up to over 700 to have any chances at the top 4 schools on your list.

/bump to first page

I would concentrate on Latin stuff. Don't you do another EC for your Latin stuff. The rest of your EC are really boring. And it's really easy to raise your Math score on SAT. If your CR and W are so high, just spend a weekend focusing on M and you will get close it 2300. You will need high SAT to compensate your low GPA (i live in Canada so i'm not sure how hard teh APs are), but your GPA is low.

Anyways check out my profile, it's the Chines Canadian with mad bball skilss one, I'm looking to play in NCAA

I don't know why you feel unfortunate to be WASMM. No disadvantage there. The Mormon is definely a plus for BYU and may even be a thing of interest in other schools. The top schools are tough for everyone, and yes, having less than near perfect grades and having SAT2 scores less than their averages is going to be strikes against you. Your math score on the SAT1 may be a disadvantage.

One thing I will say, is that I have seen kids with less than top of the top scores overall get in as classics majors at the top schools. Your Latin prowess might help you that way. I know that the kids at our school who have done that well have Greek, Latin and outside activities and interests in those fields, however. One young man whom I know well got into Princeton with poor freshman grades and a definite lack of strength in the maths and sciences, but he was truly a superstar in the classics, beyond what any high school kid I have ever known.

/bump again to first page

Can you tell me what's the difference between W GPA and UW GPA? In Canada, we need percentage. According to a conversion table, 93 is like 4.6. Is that W GPA? or not?

/bump to first page again, sorry...

and again. :|

harvard - reach
columbia reach
standford- low reach
princeton- low reach
uva - high match
virginia tech- match
byu - in

I would have been applying to college at 14 if my parents had let me skip; either way, graduating with my class, I'm the youngest in my grade, too.

UVA, BYU, and VT should accept you. The others are crapshoots for everyone.

/bumpity bump bump
