More info on the new Roosevelt Island campus, for anyone looking for background info.

Cornell announced today the achievement of 2 fundraising milestones. $4 billion has been raised in the Cornell Now campaign for the Ithaca campus and Weill Cornell Medical. $500 million has been raised for the Cornell NYC Tech campus.

Wow, if they put that into our endowment then we would have a 9 billion dollar endowment…

What does this mean for incoming freshmen studying CS and related fields?

Not much right now for incoming freshmen, since the Tech Campus is a graduate campus. Though they’ve talked about possibilities for undergraduate opportunities there (internships, networking opportunities, visits, etc), it’s hard to tell right now, since the campus has only been open for less than a year.

The campus won’t actually open until 2017. The ‘beta’ class of seven or eight students is housed in Google’s office space, down near Chelsea Market & The High Line, I believe.
