1460 take again or no?

My daughter has a 3.9 UW and a 1460 sat. Should she keep taking to try for higher

No. That was the 75th percentile for last year’s class. I don’t think that getting to the 80th or 85th makes any difference.

Should we assume she’s a junior? I think it is personal preference when it comes to how many times you take it. Most kids take some combination of sat and act 3 or 4 times. Super scoring and practice and just being older help. If she hasn’t taken it a bunch already, I would say take it again to try to raise it as UF is so competitive and every little bit helps. Higher scores might also help with the honors college. The daughter of a friend of ours had a 1520 last year and was given merit money. She took it 5 times.

If she is burned out on the tests, rest assured that a 1460 is a great score for UF.

Yes, she is a junior… That is her super score after taking it 2x. I just found out she is actually taking it in school, in March for free. I didn’t think UF would give merit, so that’s definitely worth taking it a few more times! What was your friend’s daughter’s GPA?

@flprepaidmom I don’t know her other stats.

You are right! Sorry about that. 3.9 UW, 4.6 UF recalculated. Will have 9AP /4 AICE by graduation.

It depends. Is she applying to expensive schools or out of state schools that she’ll need merit scholarships to attend? If so, then aim for 1500.

S20 is going through the admission process now. He hit 1480 and stopped. His choice. He’s getting admitted to all his schools so far but merit has been hit or miss and we’ve started to see that a 1500 SAT is the “magic” number to get invitations for top scholarships. I knew this but couldn’t convince him. It will work out as he has several excellent choices just maybe not his top choice(s).

That said, don’t pressure the kid. It doesn’t work. A 1460 won’t stop her from getting into good schools like UF. Sometimes they have to figure how much effort is worth it and learn from mistakes.

Specifically for UF. Florida prepay and bright futures are going to keep us in state. She would love to leave Florida but it makes no sense if she can get into UF or FSU. Any school that would give her merit would be lower ranked than either of those.

We live in PA where our flagship schools are pricey. Our kids tried to get us to move to lower cost states like Florida, Georgia, Texas, or NC but our roots are here along with family so it was a no go. Send your daughter to a Florida school and don’t look back. Many folks wish (dream) of having the option to send their kids to a top state school for what in-state Florida schools cost.

Took it again 3rd time and still 1460 super score. I think she is done. Hopefully enough for UF Class of 2025
