Hello!
So I scored a 1500 on my last SAT (780 RW, 720 M)
I’m a senior, and scheduled to retake this weekend. However, I’ve been prepping, and I can’t seem to bring my score up that significantly. I’ve filled content gaps, but now I’m worried it will just be a matter of luck.
Should I bother? Let’s say I do manage to bring my SAT up to a 1530 (which I’ve heard pushes me into the most competitive bracket), how much will this effect my admission chances at my top choices, Vassar and Brown?
I’m growing increasingly nervous that I may do worse on this one; at this point, I know everything, but I keep making small mistakes (I scored a 730 M on the last test I took, and it was due to my making stupid errors, not lacking the content).
Scores are sent, now it’s just a matter of taking this SAT to send to Vassar, Brown, and Princeton (uber reach, I know). I’m petrified of doing worse or seeing no change.
Should I still go through with the SAT? Will it change things that much?
Combined score isn’t what matters: The “top tier” scores are 750+ in both sections. Not sure it’s worth it to you, but if there’s a real chance you can best 750 in M, you might want to try it–there’s not much downside (none, in fact, I’d argue) to taking it again.
Hey dude! Although many argue that for colleges like Princeton and Brown you would need super high scores, that is not necessarily true. I have personally researched the results subsection of most of the Ivy/top tier universities and came to the conclusion that the SAT scores do not matter much about 1450+. It is undeniable that higher is better and it is a fact that the average SAT of a Princeton student is above 1500. But I personally believe that after a certain threshold, which I believe to be around 1450, colleges change their perception to the Extracurriculars and the other things you can offer. So, I do not think that you should retake the exam.
Go with the 1500 and forget the upcoming test. I can easily see you doing worse and not better when every tiny mistake count. Yes, the top schools will superscore but it is getting really late in the review cycle to push for this last minute SAT in your senior year. Just chill and see what happens to the school decisions.
Should I take the registration and do worse, how bad would it be?
