Math - 470
Writing - 570
Critical Reading - 510

All of these scores were done with no prep. I went to raw. I figured Math should be the easiest to improve on beacause I can actually learn how to solve the problems and review.

Review Books:

Barrons How to Prepare for the SAT
Rocket Review
Blue Book

How should I put these to work for a whole summer of studying to achieve my goal?

RocketReview is good, I would read it first. It's pretty hard to increase from those scores though. I went from 560 in Critical Reading to a 640 by basically learning close to 1500 words and looking at a lot of practice passages. Actually, looking at your scores, you might want to read up on Princeton Review 08.

Don't focus too much on Writing because colleges are really only looking at Math and CR. You could spend a lot of time reading up on all the rules to know all the common mistakes, but that time could be used elsewhere. Just briefly read up on the rules. I didn't care too much about Writing at all and I got 720, just focus on CR, it's the hardest to increase.

Whats so special about Princeton Review 08?

i loved the princeton review 08...thats the only thing I studied, but i didnt increase much....went from 1870 to 2040 from May to June (only two weeks prep thou)

now, i am studying rocket review, 11 PR practice tests, grammatix and 10 real SAT's......I'm aiming for 2200. It should be very doable...Only 160 right?LOL

take a SAT prep course. it would help your a lot.
anyone knows if TestMaster is good for prep course ???

No statistically a 2200 will not be possible. You've "maxed out"

u a miscer man! lol brb fap fap

wow strong SAT scores

how the hell you max out? lol, more you review, the better you do

yeah. and 2200 being not possible is just ********.

barron's is a really good book to use. it's harder, so once you master the book, the actual test should be easier. i think it has 7 practice tests-- 1 diagnostic and 6 practices. take the diagnostic, find out what you need to study. then use whatever books you have and study for a couple weeks. take a practice test every week or two until the actual test date. review in between what you need to.

its what i'm doing now. hoping to hit 2000... or more? mostly just math. up to 600something

if you want to know, my current highest scores are are cr:680 math:590 and wr:650=1890, but my first was WAY below that, maybe like 1750. so you'll def improve. good luck! pm me with questions if you want-- i'm prepping myself this summer as well.

i got 1490, and i just want to reach at least 1800 in october. has anyone done this before?

^ I could be worse, my friend got a 1270, out of 2400. She wanted to die.

Sam, which Barrons book are you referring to?

right now i'm using one called "How to Prepare for the New SAT 2005" but there are newer editions. i have a 2007 one too, same name, minus the "new". there might even be a 2008 version out by now.

i'm using the 2005 for practice tests because the newer one i borrowed from my math tutor, and i can't write in it. it comes with a cd that has review material and practice tests as well. they also have ones for SAT subject tests and the ACT i believe. Another just for the SAT reasoning test is a different version that focuses on aiming for the perfect 2400, not sure how the material compares. i'd suggest the normal prep book for most people, unless they already have an awesome score and just want the 2400.

a link to the book on amazon:

Amazon.com: How to Prepare for the SAT: 2007-2008 (Barron's How to Prepare for the Sat I (Book Only)): Sharon Weiner Green, Ph.D., Ira K. Wolf: Books

thats the book I have.

the math section seems really good

but the practice tests are hard

Seems like we are in the same boat kind of. Except I am around 1860 now, but started around 1560. I MISC also ya rly.

they are really hard. so just think, if you do well on the practices, you'll be able to do even better on the real thing. and since there's six, you can practice a lot beforehand, or focus on just the things you need. i really need to improve in math, so i'm being tutored a little, reviewing old class notes, and reading the book.

@ Improving- how many times have you taken the test? and are you aiming for any higher the next time? pm me if you want to discuss stats and sat tips. we could all use some help.

How should I balance RR and Barrons?
