Any Suggestions for Improving?

I got my scores today like most of you.

CR: 680
Math: 730
Writing: 780 [9 Essay]
Composite: 2190

I was really hoping to break 700s all around but unfortunately that didn't happen due to the CR score. I'm definitely going to retake, being that this was my first time [junior].

This past summer I took a Princeton Review course and did 3 practice tests out of the Blue Book along with 4-5 old PSAT exams. I studied all the words in both editions of Direct Hits, the Princeton Review hit parade, and majority of the Rocket Review Words. I didn't really bear down on prep books for the Math, CR sections. For writing I looked over the grammer rules, which helped tremendously.

I was wondering what further steps I should take to hit 2300 by March/June of 2010. Basically here are the questions I have.

1) Do you think I should go completely through the Barrons or Gruber's math review section or just keep practicing official maths sections? Usually the questions that trip me up are the ones that ask for number of options and the type that ask for how many numbers between X and Y inclusive are_________ .

2) How did you guys go about using the practice tests. Did you write down the question types you got wrong and why? Did you make note of any strategies or quicker methods of attacking a problem?

Thanks in advance. I hope those of you who have succeeded in passing that barrier will help me out as best as possible :)

bump :(…

Hi,
I took a PR course over the summer too (small group tutoring), and took the test for the first time in oct. I got 750+ in all 3 sections, and hopefully my advice will be helpful!

If your already a decent math student (in school, or other competitions), I think the math section just takes lots and lots of practice. When your scoring around 730, you probably only got tripped up by a couple questions at the end of the test. When you practice tackling these problems, you’ll learn to think out of the box when searching for an answer. Math competitions also help you learn this. My score went from about a 720 to an 800 when I took diagnostic tests w/ PR.

when taking practice tests, I only reviewed the questions I got wrong or guessed on. This was mainly a time issue though. For CR, I’d always try to identify WHY i got a specific question wrong, and then I would pay extra attention to those questions the next time around. Also, maybe try repeating a section you already took, maybe 1 week later. You’ll still remember it, but it can help you pinpoint the kinds of things you did wrong. And yes. after reviewing a wrong/guessed answer, I would figure out why and write it down.

I hope this helped!

Thanks for the help! :)

Any other opinions? :)

bump, now that SAT score excitement has calmed down :p
