1550 to 2000??

Is it possible(crosses fingers) to boost your SAT score by 450 points? I took the SAT in october and got a 1550sigh. Do you guys think it's possible to raise your score that much by May? If so, how?
critical reading: 560
Math: 490
Writing: 500
How!!!!????

It's possible, if you work hard enough. Keep taking practice tests, and finding out what you did wrong and how to get those right the next time. If you just can't bring yourself to study by yourself, consider taking a prep class or get a private tutor to help you.

i took an 8 week SAT course over the summer and went from a 1660 to a 2180 = 520 pt increase

Yes, it's possible as long as you actually prep. I took my first SAT in March and got a low score (compared to CCers'). Overwhelmed with intense workload from school, I didn't do anything until summer. I learned the techniques, took practice tests, and learned from my mistakes. I retook SAT in October and improved my score by 180 points. Still unsatisfied, I decided to retake it for the last time in December. But, I couldn't study because I was so overwhelmed with schoolwork and college applications. Nonetheless, I still walked into the test center confident, and somehow my score increased 110 points. Overall, my scores went up 290 points from March to December.

You can do it. It's possible.

When you are near 500 for each subject, it is much easier to move your score up than when you are at 700. Real case of someone I know : Oct 2005 SAT Math score 490 , three days later Oct 2005 (Wed) PSAT math score 60. Only prep between the two tests was about 2 hours of SAT type math practice. That’s 110 points for two hours of prep. If you work hard it is possible especially in Math and Writing. CR is harder to improve but it is still possible

PSAT:
72 M
43 CR
42 W

It's very hard to improve your score if you're scoring in the low 400's.

"It's very hard to improve your score if you're scoring in the low 400s"

No it's not. It's much, much, much, much, MUCH easier to improve a 400 to a 500 than it is to improve a 700 to an 800. You're not going up against aptitude, you're just going up against a poor knowledge of the SAT, its tricks, and its content. The writing, in my opinion, is the easiest to improve, because in general most questions follow a simple set of rules.

prep can get anyone into high 600s i think, beyond that you need to rely on innate ability

Last fall PSAT: 175 (54cr, 65m, 56w)
SAT June: 1970 (660cr, 710m, 600w)
SAT November: 2160 (670cr, 720m, 770w)
SAT January: Pending (hoping to break 700cr and really want 800m, but anything better than before would be great)

Total: 410

I've prepped a fair amount. Mainly studying vocab (espeically for jan) and taking practice tests. I've taken over 8 full practice tests and finally am hitting my potential to match grades. Jan will be hard to improve much more since my score is already pretty high. Below 700 it is much easier. For writing, I practiced a little, but never got over 700 on a practice test (on cr and m, I usually do a bit better than my real scores on the blue book tests), so sometimes you just get lucky or unlucky.

Keep the tips coming.........
Stewie314, would you please give me some hints towards the "simple rules" of the writing section? I would really appreciate it.
Thanks everyone!!

jesus that's amazing....

What is????

Hey everyone. This is my first time here and i just wanted to ask everyone if they had any advice for me concerning the PSATs. My score was not good at all. I honestly didnt feel that bad because I DIDN'T STUDY AT ALL. My total score was a 148 and I thought that was ironic because I am an honor roll student with a average of 92. For some reason, the PSAT is very hard for me, mostly because I am not that good in vocabulary and comprehension. It just doesnt come easily. I think my average is decent buit my PSAT score is far from that. Anyway, I am in my second year of high school and really want a excellent grade on the SATs and the truthis with a horrible score of 148, lots of improvemnts needs to occur. So if anyone whats to reply, feel free!

^^haha, this is my thread!! J/K. But just so you know, when you have a seperate issue, you start a new thread or you just kind of hitch on to another one. But you don't completely take over. lol. But it seems like we're in the same predicament so feel free................

Fight fight fight.....jk...Calm down

But its finnally good to see people who do not get 2000+ on thier SATs and still complain. I am just like an average student (got a 159 onPSATs and gonna take my first SATs in April---One more THing I am a Junior and I got a 159...Soooo I need to improve fast...)

This is for Mackie. I dont no if you were trying to insult me but it wasnt really funny. Other than that, I need advice not jokes. lol Anyway Mackie how did you do on your PSATs? If is way better than mine, I would like to hear your studying techniques. By the way, what did you mean when you said "oh this is my thread and dont try to take it over?". I am really not playing and the only reason I registered was to improve myself as well as increase my capabilities. Thanks

I had a 157. It's nice to see people around my level instead of those 2000+ scorers here. I need to improve fast also for the May SAT...

Anyone have any advice on what to do?

lil_killer129-------are you a senior? well if you are the only advice one can give you is to take it seriously and do practice tests. most of the ppl here that got 2000 and up are ppl that spend all the time in their day studyijng and for me i didnt even study so 148 isntthat bad. so study n take it seriously. by the way how are you in school? G.P.A.?

I'm a Junior. I can't find the time to study since I have school work and such. And my GPA... is a 91 unweighted and 94 weighted.

if you can find time to make almost 1,100 posts on CC u can find some time to study for your SATs
