17 at McGill

I've skipped a grade so I'm younger than all of my classmates. I'm seriously considering McGill for next year, but I wouldn't turn 18 until about half way through the school year (feb). To enter bars/do activities, do they check ID at all? Would I be able to get through the first four or five months without having to miss out on social events, etc?

Thanks

Yes they check ID as much in Montreal as anywhere else. Since most people choose to move out of residence after first year into the student village (affectionately called the “McGill Ghetto”) there are house parties at the beginning of the school year and during holidays/long weekend so it really isn’t that difficult for underage students to get their hands on booze if they want to. Anyway despite the the lower drinking age of Quebec, there really isn’t a lot more drinking activities then at any other university, except during the first week of school in September where a lot of the freshmen students- particularly the Americans- get really hammered, after that though everyone buckles down and gets to work. There are plenty of student events that don’t require drinking to join in. For example at the beginning of this school year there was harvest festival (McGill Feeding McGill) where all the produce grown at McGill’s agricultural campus was used to give free meals to students and anyone else who asked: [McGill Feeding McGill 2013 - YouTube](<a href=“McGill Feeding McGill 2013 - YouTube”>McGill Feeding McGill 2013 - YouTube)
