OKAY SO, I am currently a first year at UF taking 14 credit hours. Since I also want to get into premed, that means every semester afterwards I should take >=15 credit hours.
My tentative schedule:
Mon
WST Intro to health disparities (3ch)
CHM 2 (3ch)
CHM 1 lab (1ch, but takes up a 3hr block time; actual lab times vary)
PPE Psych of Personality (3ch)
Tues
STA Intro to Stat (3ch - hybrid class)
IDS UF Good Life (3ch - hybrid class)
Wed
WST
IDS
Thurs - free
Fri
WST
PPE
IDH Honors reading class (I would honestly drop this but? I need a second honors course credit. These classes are jokes tbh)
I know a classmate who has taken 18 credit hours this current semester and, she barely sleeps. At all. (I can’t tell if this is due to her course load or her bad habits, or a combination of both, but it makes the prospect of 17 hours seem like a bad idea.) Judging by these course combinations, would this be a horrible idea? Should I drop a class and replace it with another 1 credit hour course to make 15 exact? (The dropped course would most likely be WST, but I’m actually interested in that one. If I didn’t have to take the IDH course I wouldn’t, but that’s just how it is sometimes I guess)
Only you can decide how many credits you can handle. Everyone is different. My D took 19 credits each semester freshman year and she had plenty of free time and time for sleep. A couple of times each semester when she had multiple projects at the same time, things were a little hectic, but that’s going to be the case for students with less credits as well.
After your first semester, UF recommends prem eds taking 15+ credits each semester including 2 science courses. Given that guidance, I would consider replacing one of those courses with a science course, maybe BSC 2010.
Current UF pre-med here. Take Bio 1 instead of another class on there, you’ll wanna get it out of the way before you get into orgo and whatnot. It isn’t that hard to do with chem 2, you just have to stay on top of it! Psychology of personality is not difficult at all, but my friend says WST is. Maybe wait to take that a diff semester. Replace it with bio 1 and the IDH course with bio 1 lab
I agree. I took bio 1 freshman spring and I am glad i did because it only gets harder. Bio 1 is not that hard but the exams are a large percent of the grade so you want to do well and you need some time to study.
