17 credits too much?

I'll be a freshman this Fall. Would this schedule be too much? I already have 45 credits out from APs and Dual Enrollment courses by the way.

MAC 2311 Analytic Geometry & Calculus 1 (4 credits)
HIS 3942 History Practicum (2 credits)
ANT 3302 Sex Roles: A Cross-Cultural Perspective (3 credits)
PHI 2010 Introduction to Philosophy (3 credits)
RUS 1130 Introduction to Russian Language & Culture (5 credits)

I'm in between a Computer Science major and History major.. so I need this level of Calculus for Computer Science and HIS 3942 for History. Also, history requires a language which I can't test out of. I have some basic Russian knowledge but I'll basically be learning a new language.

This is what my schedule would look like:

Monday: (7:25 am – 8:15 am), (10:40 am – 11:30 am), (1:55 pm – 2:45 pm).
Tuesday: (7:25 am – 8:15 am), (9:35 – 10:25 am), (11:45 am – 12:35 pm).
Wednesday: (7:25 am – 8:15 am), (10:40 am – 11:30 am), (1:55 pm – 2:45 pm).
Thursday: (7:25 am – 8:15 am), (9:35 – 10:25 am), (10:40 am – 11:30 am), (11:45 am – 12:35 pm).
Friday: (7:25 am – 8:15 am), (10:40 am – 11:30 am), (11:45 am – 12:35 pm).

I was thinking that I should maybe drop Intro to Philosophy, since it isn't a GenEd or required for my major... I'm just interested in it. If I drop this course, I'll have 14 credit hours for the semester and my schedule will look like this:

Monday: (7:25 am – 8:15 am), (10:40 am – 11:30 am), (1:55 pm – 2:45 pm).
Tuesday: (7:25 am – 8:15 am), (9:35 – 10:25 am).
Wednesday: (7:25 am – 8:15 am), (10:40 am – 11:30 am), (1:55 pm – 2:45 pm).
Thursday: (7:25 am – 8:15 am), (9:35 – 10:25 am), (10:40 am – 11:30 am),
Friday: (7:25 am – 8:15 am), (10:40 am – 11:30 am).

Any input would be really great, thanks.

Going to class at 7:25 in the morning everyday? It’ll be like high school all over again…! Dx What class is that, the Russian Language one? I’d see if I could take it at a later time…

And yea, drop the Intro to Philosophy one; take it next semester. No need to stress yourself out the 1st semester of college! :x

17 sounds like a helluva lot for a first-semester freshman. Also, like GatorGurl said, if you can get the 7:25 classes moved to sections later in the day, I’d do that.

i had a schedule similar to this my freshman year, and it was by far my most successful and rewarding semester as far as pure academics go. my GPA has never been so high.

i don’t think its a reasonable schedule, but i do think its worth trying. BUT, if the philosophy class starts interfering with your grades in other classes, do not hesitate to drop it.

All your courses are easy and since you have DE/AP credits you are used to higher level work. I think your schedule is doable however you will be busy with class work and won`t have time to explore all the out of class activities you might want to. And yes going to class at 7:35 am might pose a challenge if you live in the dorm and require X amount of sleep like me. Dorms do not quiet down before midnight… You will enjoy your freshman fall more by dropping one of your classes. You can try this schedule for a one week and then drop a class at the end of drop/add week w/o penalty.

Do NOT do 17 credits your first semester, especially not with 7:25 classes every day. First of all, by the time you get to preview, you probably won’t get to pick your times, so your schedule is probably going to be all over the place, which sucks when you have 17 credits (trust me… my fall semester this year looked like that. An early class here, 3 class period break here, another class starts, etc). And also, 7:25 classes are awful. You’re going to hate it. It is WAY different from when you are in high school, because most of the other people aren’t waking up that early. Enjoy your fall semester! Get accustomed to campus! Try for only 14-15 credits. Maybe even less. If you’re already ahead, what’s the rush?

Thanks for all the help guys. I reordered my schedule (of course if I can get it this way during Preview) so that I won’t have 7:25 am classes:

Period 1:
Period 2:
Period 3: MAC 2311, Staff, 9:35 am – 10:25 am, MTWF
Period 4: RUS 1130, Tatiana Renz, 10:40 am – 11:30 am, MTWRF
Period 5: PHI 2010, John Westmoreland, 11:45 am – 12:35 pm, TRF
Period 6:
Period 7: HIS 3942, Sean Adams, 1:55 am – 2:45 pm, MW
Period 8: ANT 2410, Staff, 3:00 pm – 3:50 pm, MWF
Period 9:
Period 10:
Period 11:

If this works out, I’ll try out the 17 credits and if it’s too much, I’ll just drop Intro to Philosophy, rounding it out to 14.

that’s a very reasonable schedule. like someone else said, you’ll be working this semester. if you start slipping up because of social stuff, just tell yourself you can try that stuff next semester.

how do you already have your schedule set up? have you gone to preview already?

Just want to add that Ms. Tatiana is awesome. Great teacher.

Sent from my Droid.

@vodka: No, these are just the courses that i hope to register for at preview (check the catalogue online). I’m sure that I won’t get exactly what I want but it’s nice to have an idea beforehand.

@damien: Awesome! :)

thats good you moved the 725 class out the way that will make everything else easier
