1780 SAT...no chance?

I posted my stats at a few more forums, but I want some NYU students to judge them, too. I know I have almost no chance, but I'm stressed beyond belief. Not because I'm dying about going to NYU, because this whole application thing is killing me. Mood swings all day.

Anyway, here it is.

1780/2400 (1190/1600)
3.3 UW
Top 25% in class (about 20th out of 100)
2-3 ECs
1 community service, not for more than 24 hours.
No work experience worth writing.
Honors classes throughout high school. (no APs in my school)
Good recs
Good essay.
VERY good short answers.
Bilingual.
Been living in NJ for 5 1/2 years, but international student.
Turkish/Male
Not applying for financial aid.
Made the honor roll every year.
Parents didn't attend college. All siblings did.

I sent in my application like a week ago. Just waiting for the break to be over so I can get my school to send in the transcript.

I know it's a major reach, but do I have ANY chance? Thanks.

There are more than 35,000 applicants/yr.

Everybody says NYU's a number game.

06 applicants are more competitive than ever.

BUT, there have been passionate applicants w/ underwhelming stats accepted to NYU every yr. These cases are rare, but there are also overqualified applicants w/ PERFECT stats that are outright rejected. So what does that tell you? If you're really a devoted NYU applicant, you have as good a chance as anyone else.

Truthfully, your stats fall a little below the average. 3.3 uw isn't impressive, but your school might be competitive. If you emphasized your Turkish background and your parent's educational background, or lack thereof, they'll consider your app more favorably. You need more CS hours and if you do happen to volunteer, make sure you update them on that.

Wish you the best of luck. :)

And don't be stressed out. There's plenty of colleges out there that'll accept an applicant w/ a 1780. Trust :)

apply bro! dont worry about our opinions

When I get my acceptance/rejection letter, I'll let you guys know. Let's hope the adcom somehow finds it his heart to accept me.

BTW, is it true that NYU is really stingy in the financial aid department? You'd think with a price tag like that, you'd get good help.

im going to have to say all the rumors of ther stingyness are TRUE. i got nothing but a 2600 loan

chea.. NYU's damn notorious for stingy financial aid. don't count on it.

I probably sound like a broken record but, I think numbers aren't as important as they seem. From what I've got out of NYU so far is that they are a school that's willing to take a chance on a student with average "stats" but presents him/herself as very passionate.

nyu is notoriously stingy (they're rated #1 on PR's website for students most dissatisfied with fin aid).

nyu SEEMS to be big on numbers. but we're not admission officers. i'm sure ecs/recs/essays count too.

everyone has a chance because you make a chance for yourself when you apply. people who have a zero percent chance are the ones that don't apply.

Good luck :)

Confidence boost. Hurray!
