1800 to 2200?

Sorry I haven’t been keeping you guys informed lately. I have been living the summer life in Dubai for the past 3 days. I did however manage to buy some books

DAY8- nothing
DAY9- nothing
DAY10- Full Length Practice Test 9

Also I’m having trouble coming up for examples to do with any essay. Is there a good list of literature and history stuff to use (also I’d prefer uncommon examples not MLK and Gandhi)

DAY11- 3 sections + review

I’ve been slacking off on the essay though.

I really need a list of examples or something @Stanucbear can you help me out?

DAY12- so like, I scored a 1930 with a 670!!! in CR. also made flashcards for Practice Test 3

I’ve never been able to get past the low-500’s so to get a fkn 670 is a great sign of progress for me. I guess I just need to focus extremely hard. CR has always been my worst section but in this case it’s my best.

It’s all about mindset, and without practice you’ll never improve.

Also, @Stanucbear (sorry for spamming u haha) I’ve been holding off on posting my essay because I feel it’s godawful, however - if you have a moment and would like to review it (mind you, it’s partially incomplete) then that’d be great. This essay I focused on transitions but my body paragraphs were absolute BS lol (I still used vocab)

I guess improving one thing at a time is the best way to go about the essay for me.

@Onedoublethree, I wouldn’t worry about the Writing score now. Merit awards are based on CR + M scores and (for admissions) your CR matters more than your W, so I’d focus on your CR score first. When you score well on that, then work on your math. If you have time after that, then work on your essays.

My son scored 10-12 on his essays. He had 5 paragraphs. The 1st took a position and gave 3 examples/supporting evidence. Paragraphs 2-4 developed the 3 examples (one/paragraph). Paragraph 5 restated his position and mentioned his 3 examples in a different way. When you get the formula down, work on transitions. My son also found it helpful to brainstorm some broad examples that could be adapted to fit a variety of topics. That gave him more time to come up with additional examples during the exam.

@austinmshauri Thanks! But the college I’m planning looks at the SAT score as a whole.

Yeah the essay is formulaic. The trouble I’m having is in brainstorming examples. I was never an avid reader, so I can never really come up with something.

I barely have enough time for 2 body paragraphs, much less 3. I’ll see what I can do.

Everyday, we are surrounded by a plethora of subliminal messaging that attempts to define the idealistic, flawless model of a human being–encrypted through television and media, and veiled behind the misconception that a world with perfect humans is a perfect world. Ironically, brainwashing our youth has so far only demonstrated negative consequences on the worlds’ progression. This can be substantiated by the actions of literary and historical figures.

^ Is that a good intro? (or should I say, a 12 intro) (ok who am I kidding, is that even a 10 intro?)

That intro overkills on vocabulary, and is too dense. In your third sentence, you have a grammar error: what is “this”??You only need 2 short sentences: I agree/disagree, and here is where my evidence comes from.

Also, I recommend doing 50 vocabulary words a day, and stick to your schedule!!! If you do it right, you should get high scores by your test date.

I really like reading about what you’ve been doing because I got an 1800 on my first practice test and I want to raise my score by October. I started studying last week, though. From what I’ve read on these forums and on websites, you can do two body paragraphs and still get a good score. Also for examples I like to use books that I’ve read for school because I don’t usually read outside of school. Books that I might refer to are: The Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass, Animal Farm, Fahrenheit 451, and the Odyssey. Also, I plan on looking for some semi-recent news articles to bring up (some general examples are gay marriage being legalized or police brutality). And, lastly, I want to bring in some unique history examples (just not something everyone will use). So that could be Roe v. Wade or how Queen Mary I of England (Bloody Mary) went on a killing rampage.

Sorry, I have been busy these past few days. I have read all of your posts but have not had the time to respond until now. I will not be providing you with a list of examples from literature, as I do not know the novels you have read. But as far as historical examples go, I have below generated a small list of topics that aren’t overused (overused topics like MLK, atticus finch, 9/11, etc). Please remember that examples can also be profound quotes! I memorized ~10 profound quotes just to use as examples.

  1. Han dynasty china... Cao Cao and Lu Bu was waging war against each other and Cao Cao ordered his army to go collect wheat in one of the town. To his surprise Lu Bu attacked the town. Without any options, Cao Cao ordered to open up all the gates, and have just a handful of guards to stand on top of the gates. There are dense forests around the town, so Lu Bu thought, Cao Cao must have troops hiding in there, and retreated. Next day Lu Bu decided to attack the town again, but this time Cao Cao actually hid troops in the forests and fought off Lu Bu's troops. =>Deception, creativity, confidence.
  2. Henry David Thoreau's essay, "Civil Disobedience" =>loyalty, duty
  3. Harlem renaissance =>creativity, culture, enrichment
  4. Oppenheimer & the atomic bomb =>dangerous success
  5. Stanford prison experiment =>power, authority, corruption
  6. Solomon Asch's conformity study =>conformity
  7. "First they came for the Socialists, and I did not speak out--because I was not a Socialist. Then, they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not speak out--because I was not a Trade Unionist. Then, they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out--because I was not a Jew. Then, they came for me, and there was no one left to speak for me" -Martin Niemoller on the cowardice of German intellectuals during the Nazi's rise to power. =>Courage/standing up for others, question authority
  8. "A society grows great when old men plant trees whose shade they know they shall never sit in" -Greek Proverb =>Selflessness
  9. Potsdam declaration
  10. Immanuel Kant's "categorical imperative"

No worries at all!

Ill make a document of those examples with a pgph summary and print it out to memorize.

@thetex I dont really think its an issue to use vocab as long as it is fitting. But yeah ur right that intro is too precise to be molded into two bodies

@meyeann yup. You should use Stanucs list for historical examples (theyre pretty uncommon IMO)

Alright DAY13- essay day! Prepared a long list of examples with bullet points and motifs + 50 vocab words

Hoping to do a full length tmr. Wish me luck!

What did you do to increase your CR score?

I grind at least 2 passages a day, and improved my score from 500 range to 700+range in about 4 months.

OptimisticLad: I honestly dont know
I just focused really hard and had a very good understanding of the passage. Also I memorized a few vocab.

DAY14- Alright some strange things are happening I just got a 1940 on Practice test 8 with a 700 in W (i gave myself an 8 on the essay but u guys will be the judge of that) o.O first score to pass the 600s party

Ill post my essay tonight for grading cz im so exhausted after this full length

Prompt: Do you think that easy does not challenge us and that we need adversity to help us discover who we are?

ESSAY:

Adversity is vital for understanding oneself. Several examples from literary and current events substantiate this claim. As shown by The Egyptian Revolution & Tomorrow When The War Began, humans cannot appreciate themselves without undergoing any trials or hardships.

During the Egyptian Revolution in 2011, the Egyptian people had condemned their governments actions and laws. This condemnation lead to a major uproar on January 25th and lead to an enormously violent civil war. The Egyptian people protested for weeks upon weeks until finally their corrupt leader- Husni Mubarak - resigned. The Egyptian population had ultimately achieved their goal and were well on their way to improving the country for the better. Therefore, the dauntless actions of the Egyptian people sincerely prove that without hardships, defining who you are as an individual or country would never be feasible.

In the 1997 fiction book “Tomorrow When The War Began” by John Marsden, a group of irresponsible Australian teenagers decieve their parents and persuade them that they are going on an innocent camping trip out in the wilderness. However, when a war manifests their homeland, the teenagers are faced with a dilemma: go home in an attempt to reconcile with their families, or stay stranded in the wilderness in hope for a miraculous rescue. Ultimately, the teenagers sneak through the battlefield, develop a symbiosis for each other and learn numerous things about themselves through the struggles that face them. In the end, they reconcile with their families and emigrate. Thus, the actions of the teenagers in Tomorrow When The War Began clearly demonstrate that without facing rigorous challenges, you can never achieve full self-understanding.

After an in-depth analysis, it can be clearly seen that from the events in the Egyptian Revolution and Tomorrow When The War Began, defining oneself can only be achieved through undergoing troubles.

Alright, so I followed AcademicHackerz guide to a 12 essay, but I feel my examples are lacking nonetheless.

What do you think? I still have to work on my grammar and punctuation (also I didn’t exactly use transitions due to time stress - I completely forgot) and also my essays vocab level is tenuous, to say the least.

What would you grade me? Why?

Thanks!

ALSO the above post should read DAY13 not 14, my bad.

GUYS

How do I solve this? “(Today) a medical doctor must often (make a choice) between (engaging in) private practice (or) engaging in research. (No error)”

It’s D, but I picked A because shouldn’t be be “nowadays”?

Also I suppose it’s D because there is no use of the word EITHER, so you can’t put “or”

?? I’m stumped.

ALSO
progress update: I’m getting much better at writing with an average of like 6 or 5 wrong per test.

and CR too, used to be in the 20s now I’m around 14-13.

math - idk, I can solve all the medium-easy ones correct 95% of the time, but the hard ones generally bewilder me and I end up getting 9 or so wrong per test o.o

I think it’s D because whenever you use the word “between,” it must be accompanied by the word “and.” After all, between…and is a phrase.

ALSO ALSO

Question 10 pg 863
“The Basque language, possibly one of Europe’s oldest, whose origins are hotly debated”
A. The Basque language, possibly one of Europe’s oldest, whose origins are hotly debated
B. The Basque language, possibly one of Europe’s oldest, it’s origins are hotly debated
C. Possibly one of Europe’s oldest languages, the origins of Basque are hotly debated. – I PICKED THIS
D. The origins of the Basque langauge, possibly one of europes oldest languages, are hotly debated – CORRECT. WHY??
E. Basque is hotly debated as a language whose origins are possible one of europes oldest.

Btw can someone grade my essay?

Please answer me xD

Is it a good idea to cut out all the hard math questions in the blue book and paste them into a separate book, so I can learn all of their solutions?

I have 2 copies of the book. (1 new and 1 old)

Also, for the past two days I have again been indulging in the summer life so I have only managed a hundred or so vocab words.

Today I studied
(and also thinking about that math questions stuff)

please tell me if its a good idea. Thanks.
