Hi guys,
I am currently a student at a community college in SoCal.
I would like to transfer to UCSB or UCI
The problem is that I have around 19 “W” ( I retook 9 of the classes and got As and Bs)
I have Ws because I have to work on and off plus a lot of things had been going on with my family in the pass two years.
Will it effect my chances by a lot at transferring to an UC? ( I have a decent gpa)
Please let me know your experiences… I’m really nervous because of this right now!!
Thank you so much.
I don’ t know anything specific about UCs…@ucbalumnus does …
But I think colleges worry about the % of students who graduate in 4 years. Is that applicable to transfers? I don’t know.
Also, how are you paying for college? If you are taking subsidized loans or are getting grants, there may only be some any years you are eligible for. With 19 Ws, you have paid (someone has paid) for those classes and you have basically thrown that money away. 9 courses you paid for twice.
Have you addressed the working/family issues? Colleges want to admit students who will succeed.
There are many applicants who get into the UCs with a ton of Ws. The key is an upward trend in GPA. They don’t care much about Ws because they know transfers have other obligations. Your working and family issues suffice. Where you might run into possible issues is if the Ws just keep continuing and you’re applying to a selective major, as it might cause the UC to worry about your ability to persevere.
