1970 to 2200 - possible?

I havent practiced since October. I got a 640 cr 640 math and 690 writing w 9 essay. I want cr and math above 700 and maybe writing a lil above. Taking the sats in may. Possible?

Yup Yup! :D

I went from 1900 to 1950 to 2160 (AT LAST!)… doesn’t exactly match my dreams of “2200andbeyond” but ya know… so umm… yes With loads of prep… yeah

with respect to Math HELL YA BROZAR! My first score was sth like 640… then 660… very demoralizing… then 800!!!

I’ve only taken the SAT once, but my first PSAT score (as a sophomore) was a 196, with 64 CR, 63 M, and 69 W. My second PSAT score (as a junior) was a 222, with 77 CR, 65 M, and 80 W. My SAT score was a 2240 with 790 CR, 770 M, and 680 W. I received a low essay grade, but I only missed one question on each MC section, and answered every single question.

The point is that improvement is definitely possible. I didn’t study for the SAT in any regimented way, either. I’m taking a full academic course load junior year with 6 AP classes and 1 Pre-AP class (comparable to honors if you don’t have that at your school). I think the main reason for improvement was participation in these courses.

If a higher SAT score is really what you are after, I doubt it will be very difficult for you.

Good luck with attaining your goals.

@2200andbeyondXD

Any specific guides/books you used to boost your scores so much?
I’m pretty much in the same position as the OP; I got a 1960 (with the notorious Jan Curve) and have until next October to achieve at least 2100, or my dream score, 2200+.

Breakdown:
650 - Math
700/10E (omitted none on MC. 4 wrong) - W
610 - CR

Bump

Nothing specific, really…

I read AAALL of the Barron’s book (normal one and 2400) explanation… HELPS A MILLION! to introduce yourself and all… then I made sure I understand EVERY SINGLE QUESTION I GOT WRONG… I found that the harder Math problems I got used to solving, the sillier this test looked to me and, in turn, the more confident I got to ace it…

As for practice… WOOOOW…
i took some practice tests from Barron’s (most of them I guess)
some from Mcgrawhill’s 12
the grand mixture from barron’s 2400
all of bluebook’s tests
most of online course’s tests

and after all this, I got an 800 in Math in only one test from online course… I was ecstatic… Then…

I sc@#%WED up on Nov12 and only increased that 20 points or sth … don’t really remember…

then… I got demoralized for some loooong while… and practically suffered from depression…

But then i realized, it’s either 2000+ at least, or no college for me! I got my ass up and started practicing like CRAZY… although it was only 3 weeks away (two of which were term exam weeks in my country, the third was vacation), I practiced in every day off that I was supposed to study for term exams in. lol

I tried to practice as much as possible… I knew i screwd up in Nov only cuz in the first math section i got (sadly sec 2… THE FIRST SECTION after essay) i didn’t have time to complete the last 2 questions so I just freaked out! I was thinking of how to go back to those ques throughout the whole test because i was devastated that i may not get that divine “800”… and guess where that got me… -_- … I screwd up the other secs too in turn!

So i took most of the past tests that I could find, Couldn’t finish them all… I came here to post all the questions I had (and didn’t let the “omg i got 2330. such a bad score” morons get under ma skin… ._.)… I got loads of help…

and by the time the Jan exam came,
i felt more CONFIDENT. this is the magic word… more practice makes you better at solving mostly cuz you get more acquainted with the test… and in turn, more confident.

It did help that Jan’s Math sec was reaally easy… But the curve was ^%%#2

One mistake= 770!!! srsly!

So I hope this helps…

btw I had A TON PRACTICE BOOKS… like kaplan and bla bla bla…

But I listed the most important Math wise for me…
Again they are:

Barron’s (both)
McGrawHill’s (normal one and 12 for practice)
BLUE BOOK!
ONLINE COURSE!
as many past tests as possible…

I will make sure to update my post if anything else comes in my mind

Hope that helps!
Wish you ease and success if God may… XD

^ I agree with this post.

For math, get PWNtheSAT Math Guide. I let my friend borrow my copy two days before her SAT and her score went from 650 -> 770(:

Yes it is possible. My son went up from a 1980 (CR630/M700/W650) to a 2200 (CR720/M710/W770-essay 10). He used Princeton Review and concentrated on reading and writing over about 1.5 months!

yeah pwn… I didn’t buy the book, but visited the site and took the free stuff the guy posts… pretty helpful too!
