<p>You are not considered first generation then. It does not help immensely (I am first generation myself).</p>

<p>i honestly don't think so either, if taken by itself without any other compelling factors. considering pretty much everyone has access to public school, etc. (and also considering many top schools' generous financial aid policies for low-income families) the barriers for first-generation applicants are not high the way compared to the way they used to be a long time ago.</p>
