1st semester grades are in...chance a upward trender: UC's, SCU, USD, and more

Applying to: All UC's, USC, Santa Clara University, Loyola Marymount, University of San Francisco, University of San Diego.

I attend a very competitive high school, top 5 in California.

Scores
Academic 10-12 GPA: 2.65

I have a upward trend; I went from a 2.33 Junior year to a 3.25UW/3.75W, 1st Senior semester. This is the first time I'm taking AP's (Statistics, Government/Economics).

2020 SAT I
640 Math IIC / 620 Literature

EC's
Boy Scouts for 7 years. I'm currently working on my Eagle project at my high school.

Track for 3 years.
Track training for 3 years. 4 days/12 hours a week, I trained with an independent (from the school) track club.

Volunteering at the Tech Museum for 3 years. 90 hours total.

Worked at a supermarket from July-Nov 07. 20 hours a week.

Self learning the piano for the past 2 months.

Essay
I wrote about being diagnosed with ADD during my Junior year summer and how I'm now taking medication. I made sure it wasn't a sob story.

My teacher wrote a good letter of recc about my "unorthodox" approach in her class. My Assistant Principle wrote strong SSR's too. They both know about my ADD.

I'm also taking the AP English Literature test in May as a self study.

I know my GPA is terrible, so I'm counting on everything else to pull me through. I really hope the colleges notice my Senior year improvement. Is the rest of my app. strong enough to account for my GPA?

Your SAT score isn't too bad and you've taken AP classes. That along with the extra-curricular activities proves to be a pretty solid resume. I would urge you not to stress ADD too much. It is obviously important to mention, but steer clear of mentioning it as an excuse or using it as justification for any shortcomings.

You also may consider delving deeper into your unorthodox learning technique. Whatever it is, there is a chance it could differentiate you from everyone else.

And last of all, have confidence. Yes, your GPA could be stronger, but you as an individual have a strong desire to do well and lots of ambition. Show them that. Good Luck!

What is your UC GPA? If it is not a 3.0 or higher, then you are ineligible for all UCs, unless you get in by exception.

Yea, you are not eligible my examination either.

I realize I'm not technically eligible, but I guess I just apped anyway. My teacher said they occasionally accept ineligible people. Will they just reject me instantly?

Chances at the other schools anyone?

You would need to ask to be considered for admission by exception.

http://www.universityofcalifornia.edu/admissions/undergrad_adm/paths_to_adm/exception.html

1st semester senior grades don't count towards acceptance into UCs (at first) but you can use it as part of your argument. Mmm, also AP Stats and Gov aren't hard at all so I doubt it would do too much.

They're used to confirm the provisional acceptances made in March.
