1st Time Chancer for My Dream School

hey, can anyone give me an idea of where I stand for Duke admissions?

I am a male, caucasian. WI resident and junior at a small high high school. A average all four years 12.0/12.0 UW and my school doesn't weight.
rank is 1/85
"most rigorous courseload anyone at my school has ever taken" quote from my principal in a recent program recommendation letter: school offers AP Biology and AP Calc AB
Soph: AP Bio - 5
Junior: AP Calc BC (independent study), AP Macroeconomics (online), AP Microeconomics (online), and AP Environmental Science (self-study)
Senior: AP Psych, AP US Gov't & Politics, AP Chem, AP English Lang or English Lit (haven't decided), along with taking Accounting Principles 101 and 102, Principles of Finance and another finance class, and Calculus III and Differential Equations at a university nearby

ACT: 32 Composite, 30 English, 36 Math, 29 Reading, 34 Science (will take this again in June)
Will probably take SATII's for Math II, Bio, and Chem but not sure yet

I want to major in some business related field

ECs: worked at Hay Store, ref for the YMCA, site coordinator for YMCA, volunteer basketball camp counselor in the summer (150 hours over 2 years), marketing director for the basketball camp (paid position), math team captain, will be 3 year letterwinner in basketball, already am 3 year letterwinner in soccer and possibly 4 if I play next year, 1 year letterwinner in track, chess club, class vice president, national honor society treasurer, painted 2 rooms of a church with my brother last summer, kindergarten basketball clinic (40 hours over 2 years), student of the month, faculty VIP (twice)

If you could let me know where I'm at now and if there's anything that looks weak and I need to work on that'd be great.

Thanks!!

looks good so far, just do good on those sat2's
are u good enough for duke b-ball!!! that would help

act 34 would boost your chances. right now a reach.

No I'm not good enough for the team, or at least to play a significant role on the team besides some kind of practice player or glorified manager lol. Thanks for the advice, what do you think is the best prep book for the ACT?

Princeton Review to prep and has decent practice tests...the best practice tests are in the book titled "The Real ACT Practice Tests"..they are legit test from the creators. Basically just take the practice tests and it will help, you will see that your score improves on each test. I took a couple practice ones and scored a 33 and got in Early Decision. Good luck!

how's ur gpa a 12.0? i thought they were all on a 4.0 scale...but newhoo, as 4 the best act prep book i would recommend the one tht says Real Act practice tests, and the barron's book. In my experience, barron's books have always been harder than the actual test, so if you do good on the barrons, then you'll do good on the actual thing. idk if its true but i heard tht colleges actually like the sat better than the act b/c its harder...

Colleges treat the ACT and SAT equally. Looks like the OP is from Wisconsin, I am from MN. Up here, most people just take the ACT. There are many less testing places for the SAT than the ACT. I think you are looking good as far as admissions go. Try getting that reading up a little and you should be good to go.

SAT and ACT are equal in the eyes of admissions.

coming from that area, i'm surprised that notre dame isn't your dream school

Not everyone up here is catholic, amc. And why would everyone from the upper midwest want to go to Notre Dame?

I actually am catholic and I actually had a basketball tournament at Notre Dame last summer so it's ironic that you say that, but after visiting them both and seeing everying, Duke > Notre Dame without a doubt in my eyes

it doesnt matter if youre catholic to want to go to notre dame. in the midwest, notre dame is highly regarded, and given that the op is not only extremely athletic, but also academically promising, he is the typical candidate for notre dame.

littlemikey4, im trying to decide whether nd or duke is better (i applied to both, got accepted ea at nd), but i havent gotten a chance to visit. why do you say that duke is better hands down?

Some things that are important to me and why I think Duke is better than ND are:
1. overall community feeling but don't trust me too much on this because I visited ND in the summer when there were few students on campus
2. dungeons; excuse me, dorm rooms (if you see one from ND you'll know what I mean)
3. size of the campus
besides that I would say that Duke had a certain "je ne seis quoi" that I noticed from the moment I stepped on campus but I would definately recommend visiting ND during the school year to see what you think
