Chance Me For Duke And Other Top Schools

I am a white male from Wisconsin planning to study microbiology

ACT: 34 (36 Science 35 Reading 34 Writing 33 Math 11 Essay)

SAT Subject Tests: 800 Chemistry 740 US History

AP's: Chemistry(5) APUSH(5) and German(4) My school offers 12 AP classes and by the end of my senior year I will have taken 10 of them.

Class Rank: 1 out of 419

Unweighted GPA: 4.0

My senior class load is: AP Psych, AP Calc, AP Stats, AP Lit and Comp, AP Government, AP Physics, AP Physics Lab and Independent Study German 6

Major Awards: AP Scholar, Academic All-Confrence for soccer, nothing major

Extracirriculars:
4 year soccer player, 2 year varsity letter winner.
3 year quiz bowl member.
Organizer for the local blood drive.
Student mentor.
I participated in a thing called High School of The Future where I helped modernize my school.
I also organized a soccer clinic for kids with need in downtown Minneapolis
NHS

Essays: For my common app essay I wrote about my passion for soccer and how it has been a common themem throughout my life (I lived in Germany, have a step dad from England, been playing all my life) and how I have been able to channel my passion into my community through the clinic I organized

From what I've read, I have good recs (counselor wrote one of the best students she's had in 28 years, although I'm sure these colleges recieve similar letters all the time)

A potential draw is I have lived in Germany for 3 years

I know pretty much all of these colleges are huge reaches for me (as they are for most applicants) but I would love to know which ones I have a reasonable shot at getting into. Obviously my number one school is Duke, but after that it is probably Princeton U Penn Stanford and Cornell.

Colleges:
Duke (Early Descion)
University of Virginia
UW-Madison
Cornell
U Penn
Princeton
Stanford
Rice
Chicago
Yale
John Hopkins

Duke (Early Descion)- low reach
University of Virginia- target
UW-Madison- target
Cornell- low reach
U Penn- reach
Princeton- reach
Stanford- reach
Rice- low reach
Chicago- depends on your essays, you got the grades.
Yale- reach
John Hopkins- low reach

From what I’m seeing, you look a bit 1-D. You sell yourself as only a soccer player, it gets a little repetitive. Also, you lack that strong leadership position most top colleges look for.

Thank you! Anyone else? I will chance back!

Living in Germany is a plus. I give you the following chances.

Duke (Early Decision) - Match
University of Virginia - Low Match
UW-Madison - Low Match
Cornell - Match
U Penn - Reach
Princeton - Reach
Stanford - Reach
Rice - Match
Chicago - Match
Yale - Reach
John Hopkins - Low Reach

Thank you so much! Anyone else?

Bump, will chance back!

Bump…

“Chicago - Match”

Maybe in youe dream. You will see the admit rate soon.
It was 8.9% RD rate last year and it will be a lot lower this year.

Alright, so Chicago is a high reach for me?

Bump…

I think you have decent chances at Duke (ED).

Princeton, Yale, Stanford, Penn and Chicago are reach schools for you and for almost every unhooked applicant.

You did everything you could do. Its time to pray.

I agree with 20more.

With your stats you have a chance at Duke (ED). Hope you tied your career aspirations in Microbiology to ECs via Essays.

Wish you the best.

Would living in Germany for three years be considered a “hook”? It’s something that very few applicants have, and sets me apart. Or are URM and First Generation the only things considered hooks?

Bump…

all of those schools look like possibilities but as you know those elite schools like duke, cornell, and penn are highly selective so there is a possibility you might not get accepted

What High school do u go to? and you have a good chance at almost all of them? I live in Wisconsin and am a huge soccer player applying to a lot of those schools

Awesome! I go to Hudson! We were one pk away from state this year

Are you applying ED to Duke too?

Omg I go to Appleton north and we lost in sectional final as well :frowning: and no I’m not applying to duke. I am applying to Harvard Yale and Princeton. I doubt ill get in tho :(

Oh awesome! It wouldn’t have mattered if we got to state cause our first round would have been against Marquette haha. I think we may have played you guys in football playoffs? Good luck at your schools, it probably helps being from Wisconsin because I don’t think there’s many applicants from around here
