Temple, in simple terms, is probably my 'dream school'. It's large, in a good location, and nicely priced. on paper, I'm extremely average (2.3 GPA) but it's not because I didn't care, I do/did a lot. I'm good at English and writing courses but other classes, like math and science were awful, no matter how much I tried. so, my GPA sucks. I applied for journalism, and have experience in it (I've been a reporter for the student section of the local newspaper for three years now, and was recently made asst. editor) and I took as many writing/English related classes I could and did well in all of them.

I've emphasized what I'm good at but I heard Temple is becoming increasingly hard to get into, so is it hopeless? I would really really love some honest answers.

Our average last year was 3.4 and 1110 CR+M. You have absolutely no chance, sorry. Your best bet would be to go to a community college and get your AA and transfer.

I don’t think Dion was a jerk - blunt perhaps, but there’s no point giving someone false hope.

Per Temple, two of their their most important admission factors are class rank and test scores. A 2.3 GPA does not translate into a decent class rank, and your test scores are nothing to brag about. Both of those things are hardly indicators of who you are as a person or what you are capable of, so there can be a shot if your essays, ECs and recs are outstanding, but I wouldn’t say there is much of one. If Temple is truly your dream, consider taking a year at a CC to really prove yourself with your GPA and get involved with the school, shape up a great transfer application that you can use to show Temple that while you made some mistakes in HS, you have dedicated yourself to doing better academically and improving yourself as a person.

Unless you’ve got AMAZING recs, write an incredible essay, or have a better explanation for your poor GPA and test scores other than, “I suck at math and science,” it’s definitely a high, high reach. You never know, though…

By statistics, your chances are nill. but that is only looking at averages, meaning some fall above, and just as many fall below. I think if you’re really serious about Temple. you need to get in direct contact with the admissions counselors there and ask them questions regarding your stats, because all we can tell you is that its a rejection, but the admissions counselor there will be able to provide insight on things apart from numbers. Good luck!

Why are you crying? I’m sorry for being honest and telling the OP what they didn’t want to hear. I guess it would’ve been better for me to tell them they’re a shoo-in, and therefore not help the OP at all.
