^ What the title says. I’m looking for programs that are more than just lectures or pre-collegiate classes (I might as well take those at my local community college) - programs that involve hands-on experiences, critical thinking, and in-depth exploration of STEM subjects.
If the extra information helps, I am a 16-year-old female junior who lives in the Bay Area and goes to a competitive high school. I’m especially interested in neuroscience. I’m also willing to travel out of state, but only if the program is really worth it.
Two to three weeks is pretty short; I know of some one-week ones and some eight-week ones, but nothing in between xD It also depends on how selective and how expensive you want your program to be.
@tonystarkofwinterfell Ah, I know. There are lots of prestigious summer-long STEM research internships, but I can’t commit to them, unfortunately. What are the one week programs you know?
I know that the COSMOS program held at a lot of the UC schools in Cali is pretty good and has some pretty cool stuff, like regenerative/tissue science. I also know that JHU’s CTY has a Neuroscience program. COSMOS is 3 or 4 weeks (I’m not sure) and CTY is 3 weeks. As far as selectivity, COSMOS has like a 20%~ acceptance rate; CTY will let you in provided that you have good enough scores to qualify for their programs. Good luck!
If you can’t commit to a longer program because of a few commitments here and there, I know of another (long) program that is pretty flexible (like, really flexible) with its hours; however, I don’t want to name it on here because I participated in it last summer and it would be pretty easy for people to discern my identity from it.
^note that COSMOS bio clusters are far harder to get into than your average COSMOS cluster. It’s also four weeks long; not sure if that’s too long for @photogeek8?
I’m in the same situation as you lol- I don’t have time to go to a really long summer program but want to do some sort of program. I found a program that seems pretty cool that you may want to look into: http://www.rosettainstitute.org/#!biomedical-summer-camps/crty
I may apply but I’ll probably end up volunteering and taking an online course because it’s pretty pricey and far away (for me at least)
Michigan’s SCEEP Program is 10 days long, and Notre Dame Summer Scholars is 2 weeks long and has some STEM-related tracks.PREFACE at RPI is 2 weeks long. Georgia Tech’s SEI program is 3 weeks long. You should also apply to MITES, if you get placed into MOSTEC or E2 I think that would fit your needs.
Operation Catapult at Rose-Hulman if you have an interest in engineering. Some years Carleton has a 3 week summer program with science components, but not sure what they are offering this year.
