I will be taking the Math Level 2 SAT Subject Test tomorrow and I am wondering if I am allowed to use 2 different calculators. I have a scientific casio calculator which is awesome for simple functions, but it has no graphing capabilities. I have a TI 84 Plus which I'm almost positive I will need at some point tomorrow. Thanks in advance for any responses!

I may be wrong, but I believe you can only use one calculator. What’s wrong with just using the TI-84?

It takes a lot less time using the Casio for probability in my opinion. Also, answers on the casio are usually calculated into radicals and fractions which are much less annoying to work with than decimals. Say I put in the cos(30), I get sqrt3/2 instead of .866025… I just feel more comfortable with the Casio for things like that.

I think it depends from proctor to proctor. Some don’t care and some are probably really adherent to the rules. Good luck on the Math SAT II tomorrow!!!
Ill be doing it too

The rule is: only one calculator. You can have a backup calculator in case of malfunction only. The proctor is supposed to warn a student using two calculators; the 2nd violation invalidates your test.

But it does depend on whether the proctor knows and enforces this rule.

Best is to memorize sin, cos, tan of certain angles (multiples of pi/6, pi/4). Not too bad considering there’s the unit circle.

For probability/combinatorics, the 84’s a good choice if you want to save calculation.

@DarkSouls I just beat that game…lol

@MITer94
Its good I see that MIT students aren’t all crazy studying people. "I never beat the game but I really enjoyed sll the anger and frusturation it gives you… lol

I love Dark Souls!!! Best game ever! Can’t wait for Dark Souls 2. haha

You are not allowed to have two calculators on the desk at any given time. I always bring TI-84 and TI-89, and mostly use TI-84 while TI-89 is sitting on the floor. When needed, I swap them. In all my years of taking the tests I never had a proctor object to these switches.
I was actually considering bringing the third one (my old scientific Sharp - it IS easier and faster to use in most questions), but decided not to push the envelope too far. :)

No problems today either with two calculators.
