Both have super stats and rank higher than I. I’m in top 7%, ACT 33, 5’s in 2 AP tests, WGPA 4.24, and decent, but not over-the-top ECs.

My stats aside, should I be concerned about HS-specific quota?

i really don't think they have a HS-specific quota. i doubt that they will be like "well this is the 3rd person to apply here from this school, so lets just reject them." i don't think they look at how many applicants come from your school when they evaluate your application. i wouldn't worry if i were you, unless there are only 3 people in your graduating class...

It should have nothing to do with who else applied. I would be worried if people had a better profile than you and were rejected, but it is really a case by case thing. I remeber somebody posting that their school got something like 8 in ed.

hmmm...

how would they remember how many they accepted from your school?

when your regional director reads it, isn't it organized in alphabetical order?

Does anyone think they organize it in order by school names?

Ok, thx for the replies. As you all know, the CC Board is filled with posts from students looking for any angle to allay concerns and rationalize our way to a thick envelope. I'm no exception.

yes, they do look at and compare applicants from the same high school. (Sorry, Harvardman, you're wrong.)

wait, so the applications are organized in order of schools?

They look for your school in their archive and -if you're not the first of your HS applying to Brown- compare your grades, recs, etc. to the grades of your predecessors..
Especially if you had the same teacher writing your rec, they can easily see if you have something, the others hadn't.

when I was a senior, two kids were accepted ED and then 7 more RD, 6 of us ended up attending. My graduating class was 47. Don't worry about where other kids from your school end up.

Rister, are you absolutely certain that this is the way things are done? Do they really directly compare application files from certain schools?

"Do they really directly compare application files from certain schools?"

Yes. Why do you think they have admission officers in charge of regions, who get to know specific high schools and read all the files from students applying from their regions and high schools?

This does NOT mean that there is a quota for each high school, and that they decide to accept two from HS X and compare the 5 applicants for the two best. No, it doesn't work that way.

9 kids accepted out of class of 47? Where the hell do you go?

a really good nyc private school

Collegiate?

I am sure that geographical diversity has some basis in their decisions.
