20-23 Units first quarter of college. too much?

I'm trying to figure out my schudule for my first quarter of college.
I'm majoring in Nursing
Minoring in Political Sciences (don't ask, too long to explain why)
and i also want to learn Spanish

so far im thinking of taking 7 classes (and one lab)
5 3unit courses and 2 2unit courses. but i might not take one of them if its too much

i want to take:
Pol Sci 303-Third World Politics (elective for minor)
Pol Sci 220-Intor to Pol. Theorgy (core class for minor
BIOL 104-Intro to Bio (pre req for major)
Spanish 1--(spanish class)
Eng 100-Intro to Reading Comp and Writing--(general ed)
Pol Sci 210-Intro to US Pol (core course for minor)--MAYBE
PSCI 330--Pol. Regimes of China and South Asia--(elective for minor)

do you think this is too much to chew?
my actual schedule would be too overwhelming. I would have either 3,4, or 5 classes a day spaced out pretty well.my earliest class would be 8:00 3 times a week and my latest class would be until 6 2times a week.

PLEASE HELP.

yes
.

Definitely too much. Your first quarter/semester of college should be an adjustment time. 20 credits was a lot for me to handle when I was already adjusted. 23 credits is just a bad idea for anyone. Starting your day at 8AM would just make it worse.

but the 8:00am course is the Third World Politics and im hella looking forward to that.

maybw reconsider one of the core minor courses.

would 17 be reasonable?

Unless you’re a morning person, an 8AM class sucks no matter how much you’re interested in it.

Yeah 17 is reasonable. I started off with that, and I was fine.

I am a morning person. and its only 3 times a week. i wouldnt mind. i would get 2 days to sleep till 10-10:30am.

and my hs starts at 8 and im the most alive person in the class. i swear. everyone is sleeping with their eyes open but im wide awake arguing with the teacher (religous classes…lots of arguing goes on)

My suggestion:

Pol Sci 220-Intor to Pol. Theorgy (core class for minor
BIOL 104-Intro to Bio (pre req for major)
Spanish 1–(spanish class)
Eng 100-Intro to Reading Comp and Writing–(general ed)
Maybe: Pol Sci 303 or 330.

Don’t take a core class that you’re not sure you want to take for a minor you’re not sure about adding. Take the one or two Pol Sci courses and then decide whether or not you want to continue with that minor. If nursing is your major, should you only be taking one science class? Just seems a little light compared to the other freshmen nursing “majors” I know.

Your school may charge you for additional credits. Also, there may be a limit on how many credits you can register for based on your GPA.

yea im still deciding what to do. i kind of want to finish my minor & learning spanish as quickly as possible. taking mostly that and adding GE and pre-reqs for nursing. but if i finish my minor quickly, or at least most of it, i can then focus on my major.

cuz my dream is to become a diplomat. but its really difficult to get in. so if that doesnt work out i have nursing, which is a great job.
but im good at pol sci, economics, internation relations, etc…so i have confidence i can succeed in passing the exam to become a diplomat.

You can’t learn Spanish quickly. If you want to learn it, you need to take it at LEAST all the years you’re in college. Even if you want to finish your PoliSci minor quickly, do you really want to be taking all nursing classes for your last few years? Spread it out a bit IMO.
