20 on act wants 27

i took the act my junior year and got a 20, taking it again my senior year (this year c/o 2012)
english 18
math 17
reading 23
science 21

those who have gotten a 23 or higher on the act please tell me your method on getting these score i would like to get a 27 for a full ride scholarship at my college of choice (famu) eventhough they have scholarships for 23 and above a 27 will help pay for..EVERYTHING and also give me a 500 stipend...

All I did was read the Princeton review book, did practice tests in silent environments to mimic the actual test, and got a 33

Agree with above; just keep redoing tests. Once you seem to be able to average the desired score for a section, concentrate on other sections. Good luck :)

Yeah the trick is to do as many practice tests as you can and learn your mistakes from the answers you get wrong

my son raised his ACT from 31 to 35 with zero studying, so you will probably do better the second time, even with no studying.

but study hard.

oooo cool im aiming for a 27 im hoping i’ll get it…im taking the test in oct.

for science, ONLY read the passage with the arguing scientists. Don’t read the other ones…

I’m in the same boat, 22 hoping for a 27… Good luck :)

I would concentrate on studying for math. The other stuff is kind of hard to study for.

Brush up on your algebra and geometry, by doing practice tests.

It is hard to study for English and reading.

Also, I would go to an organized prep course, even though it costs money.

It will FORCE you to study hard.

If you try and do it yourself, you will no doubt goof off too much, like we all do.

For example, down here in Boca, there is a guy who does kind of a last minute cram course, where you can go to three of his classes for a few hundred dollars. Yes, you could probably do the same study on your own, but you probably won’t.

FAMU is Florida, right?

In Tallahassee??

Let me suggest a less well known school that is pretty cheap, and its beautiful.

Flagler College in St Augustine.

It’s not a black college, which I believe FAMU is, but I think you should check it out.

You go to college at a beautiful restored luxury hotel built in 1900.

And St Augustine is gorgeous.

Personally I think English is the easiest section to study for. If you get all the questions about commas correct you should do pretty well, so learn everything about commas.

@floridadad55…i talk to my old math teacher she said she’ll help me with the math she took the act and got a 35 out 36…
