The princeton review listed emory as #20 on its "Toughest to get into" list... which surprised me!!
Is this true?

Whats the deal???

??????????

Not sure wha criteria PR uses. Emory is difficult to gain admittance but in recent years had a moderately high acceptance rate. I was also a bit surprised at the PR ranking. For example, is Emory more difficult to gain acceptance as compared to Northwestern?

The PR poll, although using different criteria comes out just like the US News poll.

emory is what #19 in ranking?
when youre applying to one of the top 20 schools in the nation, it's not gonna be easy to get in.....
just because the percentage is higher doesnt mean its a worse school. harvard gets SO many more applicants but so many of them have no shot. theyre applying bc its harvard. the high profile name schools get more applicants but emory gets better applicants.
yes im pulling this out of my ass, but its always made sense to me.

"harvard gets SO many more applicants but so many of them have no shot. theyre applying bc its harvard."

Not true at all. Harvard adcoms say that about 85% of applicants are very well qualified for admission. That's why admission to Harvard tends to depend on factors that would create a well rounded class. Harvard could fill up its class with valedictorians and with students who score 1550 or higher. Instead, it prefers to create a class representing a variety regions, socioeconomic statuses, skills and interests.

yeah cookie monster that made sense. i think all smart people apply to harvard.. and yes most of them would be qualified, but they DO apply because its harvard...that cannot be denied. emory i think acts as a "safety" for a lot of the people applying to ivies as their first choice, so it recieves almost an equally smart pool of applicants as harvard, the admissions people are aware of this so they accept more which is why the acceptance rate is higher? (haha pulling this out of my ass as well... but i'm bridging off your theory)

and just to put it out there, i find all the ivy-league hype ridiculous. personally, i dont even WANT to go to harvard at all!!

trust me when I say all colleges say that most of their applicants are well qualified. My UPenn interviewer told me when she was an admission officer many years ago, she said that all the admission officers really just want everyone to get in (which I think is nice and comforting). However, yes, many schools do get under-qualified students. YOu would be surprised how many. Schools like COlumbia, especially (especialy applicants from NYC). But yes, Emory is pretty hard to get into so I wuld feel extremely proud if you got in

i hope i do!!

princetonreview sucks

PR is starting to become idiotic in its selectivity ranking. Is Penn harder to get into that Stanford. Trust me its not.

PR relies on facts. What do you rely on Slipper?
