Does anyone else regret applying to any schools?

10.........

just one. That was enough for me..

just wondering...

does anyone think they applied to too many schools? if you're applying to 24 schools, or even 12, do you really know what you want?

the fact that more than a third of the people who took the poll applied to 10 or more colleges kind of scares me.

eight schools:
four safeties (including my instate public)
and four elite schools.

Ohio State, Purdue, RIT, Case (all in)
Northwestern, Columbia, Duke, Cornell

Purdue gave me like NO money. Case is paying for half+ and RIT is payin for one third+

At OSU, I'm up for two, potentially three, chances at a full ride. We'll see.

I got a likely from NU bc they're inviting me to interview for their Honors Program in Engineering and Management.

I have a decent shot at Cornell and Duke. Columbia (SEAS) should not be too bad because I am female and Asian.

I don't think I applied to too many schools bc I honestly feel that I could attend any of these universities. Of course, I have preferences, but I want options. When I get all my decisions back, I'm gonna compare price, majors, minors, rankings, etc. I think eight was a good number to make sure I had choices regardless of whether my 4 elite schools took me or not.

Just one...Brown, accepted ED

I applied to 8.

1 safety: OSU (full ride)

4 Safe-matches: Emory, Notre Dame, Northwestern, and Wash U

3 Reaches: MIT, Harvard, and Columbia SEAS (I got a likely letter from Fu at Columbia)

Realistically, seeing as how the admissions process is going, I could have just applied to 4 (my 1 safety and 3 reaches). These will be my decisions when the time comes. Of course, the reaches could make the decision very easy if I am rejected.

One.

My son is a junior who has exceeded his high school's curriculum and spends more than half his educational time in college classes or outside activities. He sat down with me last fall and looked at his options for high school alternatives. After consulting with the admissions department of his very strong first choice school, he chose to apply there, and there alone, for admission for next fall. His reasoning is that attending college a year early is something he'd only want to do at that school. Further, because they have a special program for freshmen he wants to participate in, he doesn't want to attend another school and then transfer -- he wants to be able to enroll as a freshman. That's important enough to him that's he'd rather take a gap year or homeschool next year than attend any school other than his first choice.

It's a crap shoot, because it's a very selective school. If he gets in, that will be wonderful. If not, he hopes to spend the summer studying at another school he's very interested in, and has been working on a larger list of schools to apply to next year. His favorite will still be his ED/EA choice, but he's also getting excited about other options, too.

So, that's why I said one. Just the one school, yup.

i only applied to 4!

trinsf:

that's funny, i had extremely similar situation. took harvard extension classes since 11, full time since sophomore, applied to harvard after junior year, didn't get in, took another year of harvard extension (enough credits now for a bachelor's degree... but am not bothering to get it), and got into brown ed this year.

so one here too.

I only applied to two: Rice and Tulane. And I only applied to Tulane because they excused me from the fee and the essay. I

If finances weren't an issue I wouldn't have applied to even 8. I probably would have narrowed it down to 5 or 6. But since finances are an issue, I had to add schools I knew ahead of time if all other plans fell through I'd have somewhere to go and be able to afford it.

6 Safeties
3 Matches
3 Reaches

My friends, parents, and guidance counselor all thought I was crazy for attempting to apply to ten schools. But I don't regret it. I don't feel that the quality of my apps suffered because I applied to so many--it was a huge amount of work but I just spent a lot of time on it and did my best.
Basically I applied to so many because I didn't feel comfortable eliminating any of them. I kept thinking "Well why not cross School X off the list, I'm not that crazy about it" but then I would think "But what if I don't get into Schools Y and Z?" Statistically, the more you apply to the better the chances of getting in at least somewhere. I did research all the schools thoroughly and I do feel that I know what I want in a school.

11 reaches and 3 safeties.

I applied to 1 college in November. It is the college of my dreams, St. John's College. I figured that if I did not get in, I would join americorps for a year and apply again later. Luckily I got in. I am worried that I will become a slacker if I take time off right now.

One.

ED/EA/SCEA is a gift from heaven.

Six. One SCEA, one rolling, three with priority/scholarship deadlines, and one January deadline school that sends their letters out on a rolling basis.

I cut two schools at the last minute because I had gotten into a school that I would have rather attended than the other two (with a scholarship).

I sort of wish I had applied to a couple more schools, maybe one more reach (I only had one, and got in.) I'm just waiting on that Jan. deadling school and hoping for a scholarship.

One and one only, back in 1975. State U, where I was a sure admit.

I have no idea how many my oldest son will apply to.

Nope. I applied to 9 reaches, 1 match, 2 safeties. Haha a bit strange yes, but I think I'd be pretty happy at all my reaches. They were all schools I visited and liked (except for one which I didn't visit). So with the randomness the admissions decisions seem to offer, I'd figure applying to all these reaches would increase my chances of getting accepted into one of them. If not I don't mind my match/safety really.

I know a friend who applied to 23. Now I think THAT's too much.
