2006 Indoc

P.S. The tripod site looks like this:
http://jamzmom.tripod.com/USMMA/
This is the one I did to share some of the firefighting training the kids were doing.

oops, we are working on getting the correct URL ..stby

Our son's call came at about 9AM, before church services.

JRH, loved your PICS. Looks like you had much better weather than "09 did!

Here is the new linlk on Picassa:

http://picasaweb.google.com/txusmmaparent10/USMMAFirstDayOfINDOC_1

The photos are still uploading, so far over 45 are available, keep refreshing screen and more will come up.

Standing by! LOL We can't wait! Just on the opposite of Prayerfulmom's son phone call, our son called 10 minutes after the phone calls were to have ended late that evening. Needless to say, I was in tears. Seems they let some of them go outside to other pay phones as the lines to the ones inside the buildings were too long. So my son was in a line outside with others waiting to use those phones.

Also, if you haven't looked at the main parent's page in a few minutes (grin), they've posted this:

"FYI - July 10 - 11 - 1000 to 1630 - Navy Federal Credit Union will be opening accounts for the Class of 2010. This will allow for direct deposit of their travel pay. Five dollars minimum deposit is required (cash or check). Each Company will be individually escorted to NFCU on those two days. For further information, please call 516 487-6685."

AWESOME!! Thanks TX!!

All photos are now uploaded on the picassa website. You can click on the slide show tab on top of the page to view them as a show on your screen. If you click on an individual picture, you can use the magnifier/zoom option on top of the page to zoom in on your cadet. I uploaded at max pixels, so just wait a few seconds after clicking zoom and the fuzzy picture will become clear and just maybe, you will see your son/daughter.

Good Luck,

TX Parent

WOW. That brings back alot of memories. They're ok guys. Truly. They just look like deer caught in the headlights. LOL
Wait until tomorrow's photos. You'll soon see some smiles as they begin to do other things. Great photos everyone! Thanks for sharing!

ekkk i saw my boyfriend in a couple photos from the website. he looked so handsome! this is so cool.
it seem most you guys are parents but im excited to be apart of this page and learning more about usmma and how to be supportive to our cadets!

Wow, the site I posted previously (#29) now has PAGES & PAGES of PICS.

Just saw two of the plebes that were at our local “Welcome Aboard” picnic in Pennsylvania!

Is there such a thing as retrospective jealousy? Last year I couldn’t find my son til day 4 PICS appeared (which were always posted at least one day later, if not more), I actually thought that perhaps he was missing and no one knew!

Anyway, great PICS. ...and parents & friends hang in there, I know this is rough.

Looks like new pages are being added every few minutes to the parents' page....

Here is the site again...in case one needs it...

not sure what the shaving cream is about?

hey if anyone has any questions about indoc or anything im here at the academy right now and went through the same thing last year, just feel free to ask

Thanks for the offer bvwhiteboy. What are your impressions. How is 2010 doing? Are they glad they came. Is it what they expected?

Any idea when the Company Assignments will be published?

bvwhiteboy, I am so glad you're here to give your perspective on things from what its truly like. Maybe tell what a typical day is like? Do you recall day 3 or 4 of Indoc that you can describe to the new folks? It would help a bunch in just knowing what is going on. Will they be doing things at the rifle range soon?

I think we need to be honest when answering questions like, atlsmith's "Are they glad they came? Is it what they expected? Probably a simple 'no' will answer that one. That will come later. Most are questioning what the heck they've gotten themselves in to about now. They are being broken down & then built back up academy style. It truly is not a good time. But they are ok. They are sore, they are starting to get blisters/rashes, they're beyond tired. They want whoever is yelling at 5am to go die somewhere. There are a few kids who have given it up & left already. That said, some are saying, "You're not gonna kick my butt" & they are patting themselves on the back over a good day's work. They're surely having a gauntlet of emotions they've never experienced before. The first letters should be coming in by the first of the week. I bet they name the D.I's & A.D.I.'s looking after them.:) (Drill Instructors & Assistant Drill Instructors.) They are truly ok.

If you can find a photo of your kid with a number written on their hands, that is the company they are in. I see alot of 3rd & 4th co numbers on hands in some of the photos. Don't know if they will publish the list like they did last year.

ya i'd say jamzmom pretty much summed up what the kids are thinking right there. but i havent talked to any of the candidates so i dont know if its what they expected or not. but they are starting to do some things today, i just saw one platoon walking over to the pool to go swimming and i know some others are going to go down to the waterfront today to use the outdoor pool. but these kids are shaping up pretty well, they are getting better at marching and knowing what to do at certain times and a lot of them have lost their voices already. i dont know when the company assignments will be published cause i dont know how long it took last year.

A typical day from what i can remember... wake up at around 5:30 and go pt, these first few days are usually just a warm-up, stretch, and a few long mile jog. then they come back and shower and go to breakfast and after breakfast go and clean. then they have the rest of the morning to practice marching or go swimming and what not. lunch is at 12:15 and after that they'll either go to class which teaches about leadership and different aspects of the academy like the honor board and officer positions and stuff like that, or they'll practice marching a little more, or they'll go down to the waterfront and have some fun on the boats or learn how to tie knots or do other sailing things. at night they have dinner then they're officer or senior drill instructor will talk to them, its more of a relaxed time which lasts about half an hour. then they'll do some more minor pt then get ready for bed for awhile. getting ready for bed consists of a lot of things, they do personal inspections to make sure no one is sick or getting any deseases, roommates will brush each others teeth, they'll help each other drink water, and they'll do a few other minor things. then the kids go to bed at 9:30 until the next morning.

"brush each other's teeth" - lovely
:)
