does each company diff from the others, besides band. like is being in com 1 better than com 3? and do you know which companys have AC in their rooms?
so yeah pretty much what does a company mean?
:)

3rd and 4th Company have AC and are in the new barracks. Band has no AC, in the old barracks, but it has new furniture. 2nd Co has no AC, in the old barracks and some new furniture. 1st Co, no AC, old barracks, no new furniture, and alot of water problems. The hot water gets turned off alot. 1st Co, is separated from the other companies by Delano, so the kids in 1st Co tend to end up a little separated from the other companies. I'm in 1st Company.....don't worry were your kid ends up, you tend to end up liking where you end up. Right now I'm staying in the new 3rd Co barracks, and I can't wait to get back to the old style barracks over in 1st Co.

Flynavy, you cracked me up. Sounds like you're kinda sentimental about the water being shut on & off. LOL Hit my kid for me & tell him to stop calling me for money. :D Bet you guys will be glad when some of the construction projects end.

Hated to hear about the colorblind test going badly for one of the kids. This sadly seems to happen every year at Coast Guard & USMMA.

bokaha, is so right. They're ok. Its tough. They're tough. From the photos, there are alot of determined faces. They do look great. The Mids that are posting here are awesome. You guys went through it. You don't know how much of a counseling role you're playing. Its helping to calm some of the crazy fears that go through a parents head. You know how nuts we are. Last year there were about 5 or 6 of us on here & they kept trying to ditch me but I liked 'em so I wouldn't leave. Ya'll ended up in different companies. Now you're all cocky & think your company is the best. :D So cjp, in a word, all the companies are great ones, from a parents standpoint. The companies aren't about the buildings they're in. Its that they carried each other through. Kicking & screaming sometimes, but they did it. This year's class will too. Note to LFWBDad: The bad boys of co. 3 will always be my fav.

Well KPcheng81, you're in a unique position. Having gone through it & now watching your son go through it, what the heck does that feel like?

Shhh. The Candidates are sleeping, but around 5:30am I heard they sound like a herd of elephants running around. Not a moment is wasted. Another busy day begins in a few hours. Its officially Sunday & they'll get alittle time to relax. New parents, you're Candidate now knows how to sew, from the photos. Don't let them rook you into sewing on a lost button ever again.

Can you Mids describe where the Candidates are by looking at the barracks in some of the photos? 3rd co. is in Barry & Jones Hall? They have blue walls & the metal furniture right? And if some of you can tell us what they're doing today? Let us know whats for breakfast! :)

As I understand it, there is a very simple process involved if a candidate wishes to end his/her training. Your kid may be having a tough time with the training, but they will not be forced to stay there against their will

no not at all. the process can take up to an entire day and the candidate must meet with many people including his SDI, his CC and CO, then the chaplain or counselor, then the RO, then he meets with the Commandant and Deputy Commandant, and finally he has to meet with the Superintendent. the process is designed to try to encourage the candidate to stay, with increasing levels of command, but if it is his or her wish, then there isn't much they can do to stop it.

Everything is going to be fine. Your son or daughter will feel the stress of training....Their entire world has changed in just a few short hours. They will miss the comforts of home and they will have second thoughts about whether they made the right choice. They are very likely to break down and cry when they make their phone call home. It is normal! They are under stress and they need to vent some emotion...be strong for them. You will probably be in tears when you hang up the phone...there is a lot of stress, but you have to be strong and tell them they can do it. Remind them why they wanted to go to a service academy in the first place. It's as simple as this: If you walked through the front gate of USMMA on indoc day, then you have the right stuff that it takes to make it. If it was easy then everyone could do it and you would feel no sense of accomplishment when you finished. The harder it is, the more pride you will feel.

I am not going to sit here and say that some kids will not drop out; obviously it's not for everyone, but I feel qualified to say that if you don't take it personally, you can get through. I spent fourteen weeks at Parris Island and I am the parent of a 2009 midshipman. My experience tells me that while indoc is probably a little less physical that Marine boot camp (1970's), phychologically it is every bit as demanding and very likely more demanding.

I will leave you with the advice that I gave my kid last year when he was on the rocks during indoc (LIKE 90% OF THE KIDS IN INDOC). We support any decision that you make...if this isn't something you can do, then come back home and we'll make other arrangments for college. Not a problem! You should not be thinking about how we will feel, because we love you and support any decision that you would make. You need to be more concerned about yourself...if you let yourself down, then you will have a tough time getting over it. You wanted to come here and I believe you still do, so if you have even one more day left in you then you owe it to yourself to stay until it becomes unbearable. If you leave Kings Point when you still have some fight left in you, then you will always wonder. And, finally, indoc is only 20 days or so; nothing is worse than indoc....being a student with a computer to talk to the outside world is much better...not great, but bearable. If you decide to leave, make your decision outside of the confines of indoc where you can make a rested and sound decision.

I hope this helps...best of luck to your Candidate and immediate family and remember...when they look back several months from now they will realize that they have moved ahead of their school friends by leaps and bounds and they will swell with pride.

Apf, awesome post. Prayerfulmom & I would have killed to have had you last year. Saw some more photos & they really look good. Their formation lines are getting more even I saw! Practice makes perfect! Had to wonder how many are taking the time to put on sunscreen. :)

USMMA2009, thanks for telling about the process of the kids wanting to leave. By the time they get to the Admiral, they're in such good hands. He is a fine man and deeply cares for these kids. Hopefully today, they'll get a little rest & a second wind.

This is great - I found some good pictures of my daughter. BUT - In a few she is facing the wall outside her room. Does this mean anything? Like she was being punished for something? If so, what kind of things do they get punished like that for?

Relax, you're trying to interpret too much from that photo. These photos are for the most part a window for you to look into and check up on your kid's health. If they are standing anywhere in the daily photos in the general vacinity of the rest of their company, they are fine. Don't beat yourself up by trying to figure out what exact thing they are up to. My gut feeling is that if you screw up you are more likely to be on the deck doing push ups. But......they do alot of exercise at USMMA so again, you can't jump to any conclusions. She's fine!
