I remember reading sometime back that Cornell will start allowing application to multiple (2 or 3) colleges/schools during the fall 2007 admissions cycle.

I have searched without luck to find that information again on this website (and also on the Cornell website).

Does someone here have that information with the link? Thanks!

My recollection is that this was on the drawing boards but for reasons undisclosed the university has decided to postpone the implementation of the idea

it may have something to do with the volume of applications they got this past year.... they had switched to a paperless system and had to struggle to work some of the kinks out of that...my guess is that they are concerned that adding the dual college choice on top of anticipated continuing kinks in the digital imaging system would be to big of a challenge

The application process reveals that some schools are set up to make life good for the student; and some schools are set up to make life easy for the administration.

My d is in ILR- which makes the application process a bit easier- but aren't there certain colleges that you can have 1st and 2nd choice major?? I thought CALS gave you that option, but the choice had to stay within the same college. In the past, the new edition of the Common App. isn't available until July/august. So my guess is that the Cornell supplement won't be coming out until then either.

Figgy, I stand by my comment. Some schools have 1 admission process/evaluation. If you admitted, you are admitted to the entire university and you can choose from any major offered. Some allow any combination of double or even triple majors as well. I contend that these schools are "kinder and gentler" toward students after you enroll if you decide to make changes.

I'm not particularly criticizing Cornell; when my D applied to CMU 2 years ago, everything about letting students make choices was overly restrictive, and it was evident right from the application instructions. But it's not a good sign for student service (at $42K+/yr) if Cornell only allows 1 choice at time of application IMO.

It is pretty easy to make an inner-transfer between schools so I wouldn't say that they arn't kind in that way. I mean I think you are just thinking about something that can't ever be possible with such a university.

You only get one choice at most other places too...out of the 14 schools I applied to not ONE let me choose multiple schools/colleges.
