Cornell will allow students to apply to two colleges...

This won't take place until next fall, but it looks like the Big Red is moving toward a policy where an applicant can list two different colleges within the University that they'd like to apply to.

Here's an article from today's Cornell Daily Sun:

http://www.cornellsun.com/vnews/display.v/ART/2005/11/03/4369b5c26f56b

I mistated what the article presents... the two college option won't be available until Fall of 2007

yeah i saw this too. I'm suprised, though I'm not sure why. What are your opinions on the matter?

In the abstract I think its a good idea. It will allow more flexibility on both sides. Students who are unsure or are flexible can perhaps get into a program that is less popular / competitive and likewise, the university can shift applicants to areas that have more capacity.

In practice, though I worry that it will cause more problems than it solves. The admissions process is confusing enough at Cornell (compared to other schools) so it is likely to make it even more confusing. Perhaps the long lead time will help them iron out the wrinkles ahead of time.

Wharf

PS - I caught the second hockey game against Michigan State. Very fun to be in Lynah again. The cheers are better than ever. "Bald, Bald, Bald" and "Ugly Parents" chants were hilarious.

I caught both games...unfortunately, the 2nd period of the 2nd game was not the most impressive :(. otherwise though, I totally agree; it's absolutely incredible. I got my family tickets 2nd row in section O, so they were all very excited.

might help the ranking of the school?

Sparty:

Section O? - must have been amusing to them when the entire student sections was yelling "Section O Sucks, Section O Sucks, Section O Sucks"

of all the sections at Lynah rink, you had to get them section O???

My favorite chant was "safety school, safety school" ... what could they really say to come back with? May november 18th come sooner!!

Wish it happened earlier. I was quite interested in ILR as well but settled for CAS.

i think they shouldnt allow two for everyone.. more work for them.. less time to look at each app. i think they should only allow you to choose a second major if you're primary major is Hotel Management, ILR, AEM, and any other specialized program.

well, section O is the only place you can buy tickets for...they were too engrossed in the game anyway...

does the cornell hockey team win majority of its games?

71% of them (including ties) for seasons 2001-4 ;) discount the ties and it's 78%. 98-28-12 W-L-T in the conference. And it's rare for them to lose a game in the Ivy League. If you are a prospective student and you get a chance, do yourself a favor and go to a game--it's soooo fun--crazy intense!

haha so i hear :).. i also hear its hard to grab hold of those tickets :(

i liked the making fun of the refs chants...the band played 3 blind mice, and we chanted "a rope, a tree, hang the referee" and I <3 making fun of their goalie when we scored on them...
