2007 FB Season Thoughts

What Michigan needs is speed. We are too slow. We're still playing in that grinding Big-10 style of the 70s and 80s. It's not going to work against teams with superior speed, like PSU, OSU, and USC. We need to recruit from Florida, Texas, and California.

I think it's time to jump ship to Michigan and forget Illinois. Time to accept reality, Illinois football, after all is said and done, is still a 3-win program.

Illinois Basketball, two years after being national runner-ups, could not secure a single top-100 recruit (there were five available) from our own friggin state for the class of 2008. We were beat by Kentucky, Oregon, and Depaul. It's highly possible that we may not make the ncaa tourney. The 2007 team returns as a 12-seed tourney team, which just lost its top 2 scorers. We have had 2 top-100 recruits (#60-somthin and #70-somthin) since 2005, and no recruits in 2008 yet.

So anyways, Go Blue and Go Wolverines!

Michigan does recruit from Florida, California, and Texas. The top 2 recruits in last year's class (Ryan Mallett and Donovan Warren) are from Texas and California, respectively.

Mallett doesn't have that Texas speed but he does have a cannon for an arm.

Yeah, more Warren's what I'm talking about. We just need some speedy RBs, CBs, WRs, from south FL who run sub 4.4s, We also need D-Lines and LBs who can run in the 4.4-4.7 range.

When I think of Florida speed, this is what I think of:
<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6uVzm_hKd2Y%5B/url%5D">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6uVzm_hKd2Y</a>
He's my all time favorite HS football player; watched him play a few times in HS. The run at 1:10 is my favorite highlight of all time. We need more guys like this.

Noel Devine is a scumbag who shouldn't be given the opportunity to go to college for free and play football.

michigan should be getting mcguffie, a rb who's similar to devine. he's undersized, runs a sub 4.4... and he's white! check this out if you haven't seen it yet:
<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eygKqRMd94U%5B/url%5D">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eygKqRMd94U</a></p>

Nearly 6 full minutes of McGuffie goodness (<a href="http://youtube.com/watch?v=x4IJ17ODo_s)%5B/url%5D">http://youtube.com/watch?v=x4IJ17ODo_s)</a>. He should be announcing this Sunday.

We actually have a lot of quick RB's on our radar this year. Darrell Scott and Jonas Gray both are 200+ and low 4.3's. Scott will probably end up going to USC like a typical top ranked cali RB but Gray is from Michigan so I'm hoping we have a decent shot with him. Though, if we get McGuffie this weekend it won't matter as much.

IMO Michigan will be ranked #4 preseason.

USC

Florida

LSU

Michigan

Texas

And don't be surprised if Illinois pulls an upset on Michigan. Zook has poor overall seasons, but he usually has one magic game.

GatorEng, like I said above, had Zook maintained a low profile, I could see how Illinois would be flying under the radar. But last December, all voting coaches in the Big 10 voted Michigan #2 in the BCS poll...except for one coach, who decided to vote Michigan #4. Who was that coach? Yeah, it was Zook. Trust me, Illinois will be gunned down. I don't see a close on here.

Well you can't blame him for wanting Florida to play, most of the roster were his players.

I would be more mad at Coach Tressel, who decided not to vote at all.

There's no chance that Florida is ranked #2. Take off the Gator sunglasses. You only return 8 starters.

By the way Alexandre, there was another coach who didn't vote Michigan at #2. It was Tressel. He didn't vote.

Why would LSU be ranked before michigan?

Because they're better.

A2Wolves6,

All you have to do is take a look at our recruiting class. Only USC rivals the talent Meyer recruited. Andre Caldwell and Percy Harvin will be the greatest receiving duo in the nation next season. Our defense took a hit, I agree, especially with the loss of Reggie Nelson. However, LB's Brandon Spikes and Dustin Doe are going to help fill the defensive void, among other great players on the team. Freshmen CBs Markihe Anderson and Wondy Pierre-Louis are going to be future stars. The defensive talent is there. Special teams are very good as well. Tebow needs work of course, but believe me when I say he is improving his game day by day. If you don't want to accept Florida's strength immediately for next season, you have to at least admit that Florida has a bright bright future.

Plus, you have to give respect to the defending champions!

Find me one poll that has Florida ranked in the top 2 and then i'll believe it's conceivable that they should be ranked there. Florida isn't even the best team in the SEC.

Do you really think that Florida is that much worse than they were last season? How do they not warrant a top 2 ranking?

I covered Wondy Pierre-Louis freshman year (I was a CB, he was a WR then)! I think there are 5 SEC teams that have legit arguments to be ranked ahead of UM: UF, UGA, LSU, Auburn, and Arkansas. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that they all should be ranked ahead. I think Arkansas should be the #2 team in the nation. With Mitch Mustain developing, the return of top Heisman contender McFadden and Felix Jones to compliment him, as well as that really good WR (I think his name is Monk or something but I 'm too lazy to check), Arkansas should be the top threat in the SEC.

He's sooo athletic. How did you do against him?

McFadden is awesome, but I think Arkansas relies on him a bit too much. Marcus Monk will be one of the best WR's in the country next season imo. The SEC has so much natural talent, it's scary how competitive the conference is relative to the rest of the nation.

Haha, didn't do too well against him. He wasn't that fast back then, but he could leap like none other. I think we were double covering him and he had about 6-8 catches. Don't quite remember.
