And that trend will continue because of the transition to D1.

Hi, let me start by saying that UCD is indeed a great school. That said, these numbers are a bit skewed, and are looking at minor differences in teh applicant pool, not acceptance pool. While the acceptance number are not out (obviously) for 2007, here are the 2006 numbers, including rankings by US News:

Rank/School/percent admit/GPA/SAT CR/Math/Writing

Berkeley 23% 4.17 665/690/670

LA 25% 4.13 658/687/665

San DIego 45% 4.04 630/667/639

Irvine 59% 3.89 602/640/612

Santa Barbara 52% 3.91 609/631/612

Davis 68% 3.84 595/634/602

So, while I can see Santa Barbara possibly being put above Irvine, Davis seems solidly 6th by admission statistics. Not that quality of life, education, etc have anything to do with all this....

omg.. every time i look at these forums im spazzing out.. i really want to get into ucdavis but i think my stats are too low. I thought it was easier to get into irvine then davis?

there's really not that much of a difference, davis just admits more people, and I think they're still expanding or something, good luck

Honestly, now's not the best time to compare Davis to the other UC's. Give us a few years for our D1 status to take effect. I mean, look at UCSD, it's such a good school but what's holding it back from LA and Cal status? Big sports. So just give Davis some time and we'll see what develops.

true but davis is still 1AA for football though, and that's the biggest sport... though you guys did beat stanford last year haha

"Honestly, now's not the best time to compare Davis to the other UC's. Give us a few years for our D1 status to take effect.
Just a note, the academics at UCSD is nowhere near Cal's or UCLA's, let alone sports. It's not simply the lack of a strong athletics program that's holding UCSD back. For UCSD to have the same status as Cal and UCLA, it needs to be more selective to attractive brighter applicants away from other colleges.

To say that a D1 status will help Davis fare well in a comparison with other UC's is to completely disregard the importance of a strong, reputable academic atmosphere. The improvement of Davis' overall program along with the addition of a strong athletic program will help it gain status in the UC system. Sports alone is not going to do it.

Money from Robert Mondavi will.

beastmaster Berkeley sucks in comparison to Harvard so what? That doesn't make either one a poor academic school. You are not seriously suggesting that any of the upper and mid UC's are somehow weak academcially dude? Both UCSD and UCD are filled with highly qualified bright students and there are lists of successes for both schools. Davis is one of the top funded research schools in the country.

"You are not seriously suggesting that any of the upper and mid UC's are somehow weak academcially dude?"

Did I say that somewhere? I'm saying that a strong sports program is not going to launch UCD straight up the charts in college rankings as many others have implied. If UCD wants to climb the charts it needs to develop both sports and academics. As great as a school is, there is always room for improvement, which doesn't necessarily mean that it's weak.

"Berkeley sucks in comparison to Harvard so what? That doesn't make either one a poor academic school."

Yes, exactly, so what? So what if Davis' applicant numbers have gone up? So what if the applicant's stats are higher than some UC's? Does it mean that UCD is a better school? If your answer is no, then why do you keep proliferating that nonsensical ranking by applicant data?
