at AmbitiousMind07:

that is an VERY tough course load.

^
How does one fit that many classes in. My school is changing to a 4x4 schedule... and I don't believe there are even enough APs offered for one to do that around here.

i doubt colleges look at your freshman year.
most of us were 13 when we became fishes

I know the schools I'm going to exclusively look at sophomore through senior year.
I've asked.

the trouble with my school is that everyone is taking tons of AP classes, so taking all will barely help me.

in school:

AP Stat
AP Calculus BC
AP Enviro Science
AP Art History
AP Music Theory
AP Spanish 4
Marching Band / Concert Band

at home:

AP Government (self study)
AP Micro Economics (self study)
AP Macro Economics (self study)

BCIS (summer) a required class to graduate.

@ aigiqinf
my school has 4x4 schedule too. does your school run APs year long everyday? my school does that so we can only have a max. of 4 and alot of them run at the same time(only 4 blocks bound to happen) so its usually less.

I wish I could take more :(

My school doesn't offer AP classes, I have to take them all online.
So currently I'm looking at something like this:
Freshman year: APAH (Hoping for 4-5)
Sophomore: AP Calculus BC, AP Physics B, Self-study Psychology, Self-study Stats, Possibly Self-study AP CS A or AB.
It's just not possible to fit so many APs in. After Sophomore year, they're will only be 5 online APs left for me to take in total [AP Bio, APES, AP Euro, AP Gov, AP Human, AP World). Most of these are humanities too. So then I'll have to go to self-studying things like Marco/Micro and Chem.

my sophomore schedule (hopefully)
English 2 H
Geometry
Algebra 2
Chem 1 H
AP Micro/AP Comp. Gov't and Politics
World History Honors (i have heard that the class itself is a joke, and that you learn more from Honors so I might self-study for the exam)

Online
~~~~~~~~~~~~
Spanish 1 (pathetic requirement)
Physics 1
US Gov't and Politics
AP Macro
AmbitiousMind, where do you do AP online?
Freshman year
IB-SL Math Studies
Pre-IB English
Pre-IB Geo
Spanish III
Biology H
Electives
Hebrew 1001 @ UMN
Overall GPA: 3.852
Summer
Spanish 1004 @ UMN
Online Health/Gym reqs
Sophomore year
Alg II/Trig
Pre-IB English
APUSH
IB-SL Spanish
Chemistry H
Electives
Hebrew 1002 @ UMN
Self study for May 2009
AP Psychology
AP Spanish Lit
To llpitch: "Nobody cares about your rank AFTER senior year. All that matters is what your rank is before you apply."
Class rank is not over until the very last grade is recorded senior year...of course colleges won't see anything, but I think they care more about whether or not you took the class. Furthermore, the school constantly recalculates GPA so every grade is important (even right before one sends in his transcript to colleges).
To HereToSucceed92: "Where do you do AP online?"
Becuase I have no room on my schedule to take a study hall and devote my time to the online courses, I have to either stay after school to do the work or do everything at home (which I typically do); I only stay after school to take tests and quizzes. (Surprisingly, online courses are way harder (well, more demanding) than "live" courses.)
I think the question is asking what provider.
Virtual Virginia Advanced Placement Programs
Okay, I'm having some issues deciding.
This year (10th) I took:
AP Biology
AP Chemistry
AP World History
AP Psychology (self study, CC)
Next year I am taking for sure:
AP English Language
AP Physics (B...I think)
APUSH
And then...I'm sort of lost.
My school is offering art history so I might sign up for that.
AP Econ at my school isn't considered great, so I might do CC and self study.
Stats is a possibility. I also may be able to get into AP Calc AB, it depends on how I feel about it, idk.
Help anyone? I'm applying to Columbia ED, so courseload is a huge issue. I feel like I can handle up to 6 AP classes first semester, because I also have xc and a cc spanish class.
^ You probably want a math class in there somewhere. AP Stats would be good.
I agree with the above. You need some math in there and AP stat would be good (I took it this year. It's a breeze if you pay attention in class.)
AP Calc is a possibility though you may want to save that for senior year (that's just my opinion though).
Well, here's my projected 10th grade schedule:
Spanish II
Enriched Print Media
AP US Gov
Honors Pre-Calc
AP Stats
Enriched Bio
Enriched Physics/AP Chemistry
Should I replace Enriched Physics with AP Chem? I'm in Honors Chem right now. The problem is that my school technically doesn't allow sophomores to place in AP Chem (they don't let people take Enriched Physics in grade 10 either, but a few people were taken). I don't see the difference between taking it next year and in my junior year, as I'm not actually learning new chemistry in between.
Anyone have any tips as to how I should go about presenting my case to a counselor/the teacher? A few students have been allowed into AP Chem, but they took Honors Chem under the direction of the AP Chem teacher, so it wasn't as hard for them to convince the teacher to take them in (naturally, they were good students anyways).
AP us government
AP economics (macro)
AP english literature
AP calculus AB
AP spanish literature
AP french language
Model UN
Mock Trial
this summer: Oceanography and/or Physics at a nearby community college.
any suggestions/advice for improvement?
My Senior Year Schedule
AP Physics B
AP Chemistry
AP English Literature
AP Statistics
AP Italian
AP US History
AP US Government/Politics
AP Calculus AB
hey.....im aiming for BS/MD programs....is my schedule for 11th grade okay? (btw im the OP)
-Regular English
-AP Chem
-AP Gov/AP Econ
-Honors Trig
-Honors Physics
-COOP internship (3 hours after school and saturdays)
my question is...is my schedule "tough" enough for BS/MD programs?
-should i be taking AP Eng? hopefully taht shouldnt affect too much...
i might need to switch my schedule up and drop Honors Physics in order to take the COOP. If so, I will most likely take AP Psych/ Reg. Comp Sciecne or some stupid class, which will **** me off.
But the COOP i feel is good experience. It is a clerical job mostly at a hospice department. Do you think that will help in getting into BS/MD programs?
thanks
@videogames: I would personally try to get into AP Chem especially since you just took honors Chem- the info will still be fresh on your mind. I would just say to your counselor "I would really appreciate the oppurtunity to take AP Chem. I consistently did well in honors chem (assuming you have) and believe that I would do well. blah blah blah."
@peaceofcake: that looks like more than enough to me. If anything I would say add in an AP science (maybe physics?- if you don't take it during the summer). Or maybe even do one more "fun" class.
How about my schedule:
Junior year
AP Environ Sci
AP US History
AP Psychology
Honors Lit 11
Honors PreCalc
Yearbook
Potential Senior Schedule
AP Gov
AP Econ
AP Lit or Lang
AP Calc AB or BC
AP Physics
Yearbook
I was going to take AP Econ junior year ut, sadly, not enough people signed up for it. I was also going to do AP Physics in place of Environ but my friend convinced me otherwise (she's VERY convincing). Should I do physics instead?
