2008-2009 Classes Discussion

okay so im a sophomore right now......stressing over my next year classes (junior) just because i dont want to screw up because i want to apply to one of those Pre-Med/MD programs
anyways this is how my schedule goes

-AP Eng. Lang (not sure if i should take this or stick with regular)
- Acc. Trig
- AP Chem (i need some advice for this class)
- Reg or Honors Physics ( some say just go to AP in 12th but im not so sure)
- AP Gov
- This last hour im thinking of doing CO-OP which is school-work. I will get employed and it will count as credit. Plus it will be in hospital since im going into medical field. But i have a feeling that school and work will put me under too much pressure. I need to do some ECs as well. So for you who are experienced or want to help, please do.
I get to get out of school an hour earlier because of the CO-OP btw.

btw, you guys can post ur classes up too.

Ok, well I'm a sophomore, and I don't have my schedule next year set in stone, but the following are the courses I'm looking to take. I'm more worried about English and History though, since the sciences (and math) aren't a huge part of what I want to do later on:

-Physics (This is almost a definite.)
-Pre-Calculus Honors (not so sure, Math isn't my best...)
-AP US History (also almost definite)
-AP English Language and Composition (pretty likely)
-Spanish III Honors (well, this is pretty ok)
-Philosophy (if offered, I heard it might be but no one is sure yet.)
-Drivers Ed
-Meteorology (if Philosophy isn't offered.)

Then there's gym class, and no matter how much I wish I could delete it from my schedule, it's required for every grade. Hmm...

As for EC's, I'm on the school newspaper and plan to stay there, and volleyball is my sport. I know, I don't have much in the way of EC's, unfortunately.

I'm a sophmore, but I wont know exactly what I'll be taking for a few months...

hopefully I'll be taking something along the lines of

Japanese 101
Japanese 102
The American Political System 101
Probability and Statistics 310
Introduction to Computer Programming 101
Computer Construction 223
College Physics 211
Computer Ethics 241

If I can take more then that...
American Political Thought 240
Modern Times: The U.S. from 1877 to the Present 104

Just finished rostering today. I'm a sophomore also.

H. British Literatue
H. Pre-Calculus
AP US History II
AP Chem/H. Physics
AP Psychology
Music IV
Religion III

Looking forward to a good year, except for the fact that I won't be continuing my language (Latin) because the school refuses to offer it. :(

hey all of you posting your schedules, can you guys answer the qusetions about my schedule..........
i am mainly concerned with my CO-OP internship thing.....Please give me some adviceeeee

If you are serious about applying to programs like Northwestern's HPME, then you should definitely go for the internship.

I'm a junior. Right now it looks like:

-H. Humanities I & II.
-AP Prob and Stats.
-Lifeguarding. (req)
-Comp apps. (req)
-H Cultural Anthropology.
-Tao in thought and Literature.
-H. Physics???? (Not sure yet)

Latin 101 at UMich.

I'm a junior gearing up for my last year.

Senior Schedule:
AP Lit
Calc 2/3 (through GA Tech)
AP Chem
AP Physics C
AP Macroeconomics
AP U.S. Government
Sociology
Talon Report (My school's video news/announcements)

thanks pro28....my only concern is that i am taking like 3 other APs..i just dont want to run into trouble you know like get overwhelmed with school. Will it be too much to handle??? the co-op is 12 hour minimum per week.

Honors French IV
AP Physics B
AP Calculus AB
AP American government/ economics
AP English literature
yearbook editor
independent study

^^ paki786, just be careful is all I have to say. I'd be VERY careful with the chem because I know lots of people who have easily 3-4 hours of homework each night.

^unless of course you go to my school--my AP chem teacher does NOT give homework at all, teaches the class from powerpoint presentations and gives us tests every week...and get this, my teacher's lectures are two chapters ahead of what we're actually tested on. :-P

I would really recommend taking ap chem, it can be a lot of work, but if you're interested in science it is worth it.

The hospital thing sounds really good as well, but don't overload or you may burnout.

My Junior year schedule will probably be:
AP Physics B
APUSH
AP English Language
Precalc or Calc-not sure yet
Spanish 104 (1 sem cc) or AP Spanish Language
Some 1 sem government class, probably cc (req for school acadamy)
Maybe AP Econs

i am taking AP Chem this year (i am a junior)....i really like the course...it is tough but it is really interesting.
your teacher sounds a ton like mine...but we have to do quizzes almost every other class...but other than that we have no homework

Senior Year
AP English Lit
AP US/Comparative gov
AP Econ micro & macro
AP Spanish
AP Calc BC
orchestra
doing a independent study.....research with my chem teacher...it works out for me really well because my chem teacher likes me and offered this up...I did't want to take AP Environmental or physics C (only 2 sciences at my school i haven't taken)

thanks. yeah chemistry at our school the taecher is super cool so hopefully i should be fine with that. But yeah do you guys recommend dropping AP Eng Lang.? or should i change my schedule around a bit from your guys perspective?

paki786: If you drop AP Eng Lang. you can always take it senior year. as far as your CO-OP thing I say do it, because its work experience that can probably open doors for you.

Here's my scheduale 4 nxt yr (junior yr)

APUSH
AP Eng. Lang.
Honors Pre-Cal
Physics (no honors or AP availabe at my school)
Band/chorus
Gym (required all 4 yrs)
AP Pyc/ AP Soc (1 semester each)
Honors Latin IV

If you are interested in the medical field you should def take all the advanced science classes offered to show how dedicated you are. At my school both AP Chem and AP Bio are tough but worth it so I know I would take both.
Sophmore this year...schedule for Junior Year
English III Honors
APUSH
Spanish IV Honors
Trig/Analytical Geo/Precal Honors (hopefully I'll get it lol)
AP Bio (plan to take AP Chem senior year)
AP Psychology (I was planning on taking stats instead but psych is a lot easier to get an A in and being an AP class, it would def raise my GPA than taking stats and not doing so well in it...what do you guys think?)

thanks megan. But then again everyone is recommending me to take AP Eng lang......i am so confused. Can someone who has taken the class or something give me some advice?

Well, I'm in the same boat as you
minus the wanting to go in the medical practice thing
My school has six class periods and I'm going to be taking these classes

1) German II
2)AP U.S. history
3)AP Statistics OR Algebra III with regular statistics
4) Chemistry II
5) English 11 honors
6) Economics and Theater (both semester classes)

yup, my school seriously lacks in AP classes options

*Challenge yourself, just don't go into overload
Good Luck
*Take Advanced Science Classes and Go for the Co-Op, if you think you can handle a crazy schedule

Senior Year:
AP Calculus AB
AP Biology
AP French
AP English Lang.
AP Psychology
Anatomy and Physiology

Dual Enrollment @ Drexel
Calculus II (BC)
Neuropsychology
Calc III (Multivariate?)

CAN'T WAIT UNTIL SENIOR YEAR!!!
