2008 Davidson Fellowship!

An extremely prestigious award and a possibility of a $50,000 scholarship? Come on, don't tell me none of you CC geeks applied! Anybody?

:P I applied for literature.

I only learned about it a week before the deadline. I believe I'll do literature next year, I'll work on it this summer and it will be my Sophomore project.

Ooh, I've heard about this program. It sounds so hardcore. Good luck, you guys!

Kalonity, can I PM you? I applied for lit too, I'd love to talk to you...I know NOBODY else who's applied!!! Would you want to exchange some stuff?

Oh, and do you know approx. how many people apply in our category? I emailed the Fellowship people and they said they didn't disclose it. For all I know it could be 10 or 10,000.

haha sure, going ahead and message me. I have no idea how many people applied, but one of my friends from my school applied last year and won $10k.
I'm pretty nervous though, since my other 2 10k scholarships have probably fallen through (scholastics portfolios in art and writing- got a national silver but no gold :/)

I was going to do this for senior year, until I saw that my birthday is mere weeks before the "cut-off" birthdate.

Just curious. Has anyone who applied this year been contacted by Davidson or had your mentor contacted? I guess the decisions should be out next month.

what do you exactly have to do for this? A general summary anyone? Just curious; wow all that cash...probably takes a crapload of effort though.

The pool is extremely self-selective because there are SO many steps to the application process.

I'm planning on applying next year probably in science. I was going to do math, but I couldn't think of a single thing to do.

I heard some people found out already. Bummer...nothing,

I WON $10,000 FOR LITERATURE!!!!

Haha, I am soooo happy. See some of you in DC in September?

What is this?

You won that in cold hard cash southeasttitan?

Can someone please inform me?

CONGRATULATIONS, southeasttitan! That is absolutely wonderful. What was in your portfolio?

Southeasttitan, how did you find/get in contact with your professional? And are there requirements for the types of literature (i.e. fiction, nonfiction, poetry)?

ArtOfMind: No, it's a scholarship. Go to Programs & Scholarships ~ Davidson Fellow Scholarships
GeoKid: It was a collection of short stories and poems. My official pitch was that it examined the question "What makes a writer?" through the eyes and minds of young girls whose stories spanned time and space. There was a story about Emily Bronte, a young pioneer mother, a five-year-old in South Africa, a sixteen-year-old in Guatemala, a girl living during the Dust Bowl, and me. :)
Shortiegirl: You should look at the website too. You need three of the four categories: nonfiction, fiction, poetry, screenwriting. My professional was a family friend :)

the awards are now out... i believe they came out last friday.

Congrats, southeasttitan!

I'm gonna look into this for next year. It seems fun!

How do you guys find this out? Man, I'm always the last one to find out.

sigh
